This attraction is only a short drive or a 15 minute walk from the Launceston CBD and is in the must see category. The natural beauty of the gorge and cataracts on the South Esk River are a major attraction in their own right, but add to that the manicured lawns, swimming pool, boat ride, chairlift, restaurant and cafe etc and you have a real winner.
For those who have trouble walking, there is an inclinator which obviates the problems posed by steps and steep paths.

The Cataract Gorge can be for the adventurer or those just wanting a stroll or a picnic. Although it's not very high, I didn't take the chairlift. There wasn't a queue in the middle of February, but I am "chicken" with little chairs up in the air. I stay on the park and enjoy my picnic

This is a wonderful public park, free to enter and wander. On a fine day pack your snacks or lunch or buy something at the cafe or restaurant. Don’t forget to pack your swimwear too, a lovely sized pool is waiting and the scenery is stunning. Take the chairlift across the gorge, quite a reasonable fee for the return, and discover many walks. These walks are for all ages and offer easy to challenging levels. Take your time, watch the peacocks preening or the kangaroos laying about. Not having been for decades I was delighted to find the Cataract Gorge as interesting and attractive as previously.

The gorge is stunning several walking tracks to choose from all very well maintained and well signed.
Bridge is a great place for photo opportunity across the gorge, many lookout points for you to stop and enjoy scenery.
Also has a nice restaurant went for breakfast food was first class.
Many areas for kids to play and chill out so go for all ages, zig zag track is a little boring with almost no views so skip that if you are time poor.
It’s certainly the number 1 thing to do in Launceston.

Definitely a must see when visiting Launceston. Only a stones throw away from the city centre. A cheap few hours as the Gorge is free to access and walk all the trails. Lovely scenery and the chair lift is a bonus however is $20 return for adults but is an enjoyable ride.

Today we saw the Gorge in sun, rain and cloud. It was stunning no matter what. When the sun came out it gave it a grandeur better than we could imagine. No sun saw shadows and nuances of filtered light that were lovely. A place not to miss.

The gorge itself is beautiful, but the ‘hike’ was underwhelming. My wife and I took the zigzag trail. I guess we expected more, but it seemed like just a hard trail from one side to the other. There wasn’t any particular stunning viewpoints and before we knew it, it was over and it ended at a road. The walk back by the ‘easy’ trail was much more scenic and beautiful. Definitely something worth visiting, but if you want a proper hike, find someplace else.

we chose the easy walk as far as the bandstand and chairlift. absolutely beautiful and so close to the city. well paved and well signed its a must do and see. you can climb the hard path on the other side but that is a lot of effort and the views are as good on the easy side

I caught the free Tiger bus from Princes Square to the gorge. A tranquil nature spot, lots of birdsong. I saw the peacocks and Bennett's wallabies. Took the chairlift both ways, very smooth ride. The lady at the ticket booth was very helpful with information about my walking route back to the CBD. The cataract walk is picturesque, lots of good photo spots. Well worth a visit.

We drove to Kings Bridge and parked nearby. The walk up the gorge was very manageable and the views were great. Of course, we deserved the ice cream we had at the kiosk! Didn't have time for the chairlift, but admired the peacocks. Would definitely recommend visiting Cataract Gorge.
