We happened across the Mid North Maritime Museum today and were so pleased we stopped to check it out. It's a great display and the volunteer on today explained it all in detail.

There's a gallery here, too, and there are some nice pieces here. One really caught me and I must have started at it for a good five minutes just mesmerised in color and depth. Well worth a look if you're in the area.

Lots of interesting information about the maritime history of Port Macquarie, well preserved articles and very friendly staff. So friendly we were offered and given a lift back to our accommodation because it was such a hot day and we walked 8k to visit it.

A wonderful little museum and art gallery that provides a lot of information about local history. There is a small cost involved. Probably not suited to small children as there is a fair bit of reading to appreciate the museum.
