My husband is a boat nut, so we stopped in here on a recent day trip. The location is spectacular, in a prime position on the beautiful waterfront. Whilst modest in scope, it offers a comprehensive overview of all things maritime in this historic port...More

I went on the last day of my trip, partly to pick up some information for another trip in the future, but the centre is only open Tuesday to Sunday - the only Information Centre in the downtown city area. Unlike many information centres, there...More

Small museum but covers the development of Newcastle from it's earliest days as a supplier of coal to the fledgling NSW colony. The mine is under what is now Fort Scratchley. Excellent model ships. Very interesting guide showed us around.

Interesting place, we went there a little while ago, however learnt a lot we didn't know about the shipping industry in New South Wales.

We visited the Maritime Centre to learn a little about the shipping history of Newcastle. We were most fortunate in meeting a volunteer who enlightened us with his stories about his time in the ship building industry

Great location, great for families - the general Newcastle information centre is also located here with really helpful and friendly staff as your start-off/go-to place for all things Newcastle.

Take your time to read and enjoy the Maritime centre. Great place to visit in Newcastle and has great guides. I used to work there as a volunteer years ago and i had just moved to Newcastle and to understand its history is wonderful. At first glance you may think there is not much there but once you go in and start absorbing the way the early sailors lived and the story of the butcher boat and just try and lift the oar that men used in rough seas and watch the movie of rescues , watch the movie of the Pasha Bulka . spend at least 3 to 4 hours there to truly appreciate Newcastle, go out and have lunch and return to continue all day. it will fascinate you as it did me there was always something new to read or see.
