It’s beautiful up there, but, IF YOU CAN’T BOOK HUTS OR CAMPSITES, there is an awesome alternative: the Rees-Dart loop. Ask at DOC; they won’t volunteer the information.

This is a great hike for keen hikers or trampers. Allow enough time to go all the way to the summit hut.
I can't speak highly enough of the whole experience. The scenery was incredible, the guides wonderful, the meals were restaurant quality. Met really interesting people. A must do.
