We hiked in from the Divide to do Key Summit as a day trek. It's a long climb, but you're rewarded with lovely views and a taste of the Routeburn if you don't have time for the full track. It only took us 1 hour 30 min, but we are very quick on the uphill. The nature walk at the... More

Well it's one of the most popular great walks.. I think it was slightly overrated to be honest, but still really good. Tongariro was MUCH MUCH better. But this was still great. The first and last leg are boring (making your way up or out of forest), but the lack mackenzie is gorgeous - make sure to get to spend... More

PROS: The trail is beautiful and diverse; well marked and easy to follow; the "saddle" was closed so I couldn't go over but did hike each end and part of saddle/middle - there were no technically difficult or scary heights (my legs get a bit wobbly on narrow steep trails). We never had people hiking directly in front or behind... More

We loved the Routeburn and felt that the scenery was some of the best to be seen on a DOC Great Walk. However we must comment on the complete ignorance many people showed for walking in Fiordland. It seemed many walkers did not equip themselves fully for the outdoors and the snow and rain that we encountered. Before considering this... More

Pre-Christmas Hike. Walked from The Divide to Routeburn Shelter way, opposite to most. I recommend this is a better way in terms of the timing of the climb for day two and views heading down other side of Harris Saddle are in front, not back over your shoulder. NZ DOC staff are great hosts and the huts are comfy but... More

We did a day walk from the divide carpark. Was steep & rough underfoot. Pretty beech forest. The day walk from the other end, near Glenorchy, was the most beautiful on our trip. Bright blue water, water falls & beautiful forest & views.

The pass was closed due to a late season snow (end of November). We did a day hike of ~4hrs up to the flats and back from the Glenorchy side. What a positively gorgeous hike it was. It starts out very well wooded and lush, with some of the most beautiful bird song I've ever heard. Apparently one of the... More

Decided to do this track as road to Milford Sound was closed due to snow. Set off around 9am in light drizzle. As we climbed we came across some snow and as we got higher it was much deeper covering the track in places. Arrived to the top to be met by freshly fallen snow with no footprints as we... More
