Stewart Island Experience operates daily ferry service between Bluff and Stewart Island all year around. Stewart Island is New Zealand's ultimate eco-tourism destination and the location of Rakiura National Park. During the one hour ferry crossing, keep a look out for the Mollymawks (Albatross) that often follow the vessel. Daily coach connections operate between Bluff and Invercargill, and in summer also to Te Anau and Queenstown (summer only).

Been told all kinds of tales about this trip but we couldn't have asked for better. Smooth fast trip with places of interest pointed out. Friendly staff very helpful. Booked wrong date and they were very kind and rebooked for right day at no xtra cost. Thanks ferry people you were great.

A good trip to Stewart island and back. A little rough but added to the ride. Recommend to all visitors to the Deep South.

There is not many choice to come here (Stewart island) 77 nzd for one way and 135 nzd for round trip , you can amend your booking date as well.there is toilet and a small shop on ferry. Boat ride a bit dizzy ...luckily only 1 hour drive . bring plastic bags (just in case)

Our captain narrated the interesting bits of the crossing and we even detoured a bit to watch an oyster ship being up its trawler full of oysters. Somewhat choppy water but the ferry was right on time.

It was very rough, the captain was an excellent seaman and stemmed the swell with aplomb. Do suggest taking anti seasick pill before hand!

This trip is short but very informative of the wildlife on Stewart Island and especially Ulva Island with a nature walk. The whole experience was well done and well led.

Nice trip on a calm day, While I am sure it can get rough at times the large Catamaran provides a steady platform for the one hour crossing. Large luggage is put into special carriers before being loaded onto the boat. Great trip.

We recently got the ferry from Bluff across the straight to Stewart Island. It was a really rough day, a few were sick on board but they were well looked after by the crew on board. The trip over was vet informative with a commentary most of the way. Definitely will do the trip again.
