So let's get a couple of things out of the way:
1) the club house service is very good.
2) the condition of the course is second to none. Greens and fairways are amongst the best you'll ever play.
3) the views are breath taking.
But...
The views in Queenstown ARE breath taking - and you don't need to fork out an exorbitant fee to appreciate them.
There appear to be some members with a sense of entitlement and a lack of appreciation of visitors. We'd booked out tee-time, and found a group of husband/wife combinations who seemed most put out that we were waiting and watching them on the tee as our tee-time came and went (no starter).
And then we wait on each and every hole.
No wave through. No etiquette (we repaired the rare pitch marks they did make).
And what of the course?
My son and I couldn't help thinking that the course designer just hadn't made good use of the land and scenery available to him. How bad do you have to be to lash up Queenstown's views? The course just seemed very ordinary. Summed up by the fact that the supposed signature hole is the one with a brick wall running across it, and the 17th and 18th look like something I could knock up with a JCB and a hose pipe.
Can't help but think what Tom Morris, Donald Ross or Alistair McKenzie would have laid out given the chance. Something no doubt better and possibly truly memorable, almost certainly with more holes running lakeside
As it is, we felt underwhelmed.
On hearing we we travelling on to Perth, the assistant pro recommended "The Cut" golf course. Now that has holes we talk about a year later.
I'm struggling to recall much about Jack's Point one year on. Save the brick wall hole and the view from the 7th tee. The 16th is an interesting downhill hole, and would be a good finishing hole as it returns to the clubhouse. Almost as if the designer suddenly remembered golf courses are traditionally 18 hole, so slipped in 17 and 18 and hoped nobody would notice....
A questionable use of time and money.
And not just by us, but by the designer!!

Hugely disappointing! Not my first visit to Jacks Point - I was there 2 years ago so I had expectations based on that. Golf course was magnificent as expected - just some of the pathways were temporary and so they were not in great condition. But the experience in the pro shop and restaurant were a let down. Pro shop staff seemed uninterested and didn't want to run through the set up for the day "because I should have heard him explain it to the group in front". we got the same response when we returned 2 days later and asked a question.in the pro shop..."I've just told the other group the answer to that". We arrived early for our 850am tee off so we could get coffee and have a putt etc but they don't bother opening the cafe until 830 - when they did finally open and we ordered our coffees they were already busy making coffees for others. So neither the pro shop or the cafe are well managed at the moment. I could go on and list other issues but won't bother because the point is that Jacks Point is not what it used to be. I understand there is a shortage of staff in Queenstown in general but I don't believe thats the problem at Jacks Point. I had 2 visitors from Australia so considering we paid $1,125 for two days of golf we all felt let down by the experience.

Today my family and I had lunch at Jacks Point . Not only were the portions small the meal of a ‘flat fish’ arrived so overcooked and dry with nothing else on the plate ( no salad, no garnish) for a whopping price of $38! Highway robbery. We left having spent $120 and went elsewhere for another lunch !

We arrived at jacks point golf club amid rave reviews.
Unfortunately the club did not live up to them.
Our tee time was 8.30, so we arrived one hour early to get in a few practice shots in but pro shop was not going to open until 8 am.
Not a big problem, but could have been better.
We tried to book in lunch, a month out, for after our round, but found out that the golfers don't get priority over anyone else and missed out.
THE COURSE
Driving range was good, with a huge supply of balls, but we were concerned when we had some practice putts as the green was patchy, lumpy and had a light coating of sand, we hoped that this was just the case for this green and not the rest of the course. We were wrong as every green was like this, which made putting and chipping a lottery.
The fairway grass was nice but not cut recently, the first cut of rough was challenging and the second cut was up to one foot long( don't even bother looking for your ball) you actually need to take a extra dozen balls unless you know your going to stay on the short stuff for 95% of your game. On top of that if you go past the rough your into scrubby bushy stuff and again don't bother looking for your ball.
The bunkers were fairly unmanicurred with deer and rabbit foot prints and droppings in some.
The views are second to none, absolutely gobbsmacking but to me this isn't the make or break of a golf course, unfortunately most reviews on the site hold the views as very important in thier experience, I would rather have a course designed to be fair for most golfers and not just the scratch golfers.
We played the hills and millbrook on the days leading up to this game at jacks point and on out next visit, would much prefer to play these to clubs over top of jacks point.

We had a very mixed experience on Jacks Point. The customer service on this club is not good, they in all honesty do not care. They have such a good course that they don't need to. We had booked to rent stiff clubs but when we got there they said, it is first come, first serve system. So we had to play with something completely different. For most people this wouldn't matter but for us it was a huge difference. We tried to reason with them but they just didnt't want to understand. In the end we managed to change tee time to be able to wait for the right clubs to come in. So if you want certain hired clubs, be VERY clear with them and also book earliest tee time possible.
Also small things like no towel when showering, no starter pack for your round, nothing extra. Everything just feels a bit cheap. We compared it to Millbrooks that we played a week earlier. They actually cared, gave us customized clubs, towels, starter pack etc. In the end the small things matter and Jacks Point just doesn't care, because they don't need to. Let's be honest, this course is amazing, hard to describe how beautiful it is. We loved playing on it. Only had one complaint, maybe it is a design choice but a strange one to us, there is almost no sand in the bunkers, like concrete. Maybe it is part of there saving plan as the rest of the experience...

Spectacular Views and very good course conditions. This course is difficult, especially for a first timer. You get a piece of paper with two sentences on each hole with directions like draw your approach shot or fade your drive. Staff is professional, but no one is welcoming like the rest of New Zealand. Because of the difficulty be prepared for a five hour round as no one keeps a pace of play. The good news is you do have time to take in the views.

Came with high expectations and it did not disappoint. Fantastic test of golf with stunning scenery. It’s not often I can remember every hole after playing a course for the first time but here I could despite visiting only as a spectator due to injuries. This is a place I want to revisit as a player

Stayed at jacks point for a week. Had a family reunion at the Clubhouse restaurant. Everyone loved their meals. Decent service and a nice atmosphere. Lovely setting too. Highly recommend. Also went for coffee a couple of days, very nice.

I can't rate Jacks Point highly enough. Despite cold, wet and windy conditions, there were so many holes that are just awe inspiring and blow you away. If you only get the opportunity to play one game in Queenstown, make sure it's Jacks Point, you won't be disappointed.

My wife and I have had a few coffees here and one lunch recently. The staff have been great each time. What a lovely location even in mid winter it’s just fabulous with the mountains as a backdrop and the golf course and large pond around the clubhouse. I had a bun free burger which was fantastic and April enjoyed her pizza. The fries were really good too! This place is so good with both food and atmosphere you just come but book first it’s popular. Can’t wait to come back!

We were there end of March just at Easter time 2024 morning was chilly 8-10 c having just snowed on the top of Remarkables Mountain directly behind Jack's Point.
It would be smart to wear layers to cater for cool to cold . Having said that the Kiwi golfers still happy to wear shorts at this time!
