Impeccably maintained track - did the 25+ km day trip to Harris Saddle from the Glenorchy entrance. The Saddle is definitely worth the extra walk from Routeburn Falls as the views are outstanding and much better than (the still beautiful!) Falls views. The estimated time...More

First, I want to commend the New Zealand Dept of Conservation. The fine people who work there have created the best track (trail) system I've ever used, consistently on every hike I took. Well done. The Routeburn Track from the Queenstown side to above the...More

We did the long version of the daily hike of route burn to falls hut (about 8.8km each way). The hike is not too difficult in the first part but the second to the falls hut is quite steep and might be challenging to some....More

We did the walk with our two girls (aged 12 and 14). We stayed over a Te Anau youth hostel so we can have early start to ensure we finish 32km walk in a day. The hostel is great, clean and great foods, fuel us...More

Our group of 10 set off at 09:30 stopping for an early lunch at Routeburn Flats Hut and made it to the Routeburn Falls by 12:00. After a quick snack we headed back down arriving in the car park at 16:00. A lovely sunny day...More

This trek was absolutely incredible. You venture through so many different landscapes it's hard to keep up. From lush rainforest, to Barron grass flats to alpine area to crystal clear rushing water falls every couple of metres this walk can not be described in words....More

We did a 4-hour hike along the Routeburn and it was absolutely stunning. The views along the way are breathtaking and the landscape is constantly changing as you work your way through the beech forests. There is plenty of wildlife to see as you're walking,...More

I'm a pretty judjey hiker, and Routeburn definitely kicks Milford Tracks bum. You can do this solo but I booked thru viator/nomad safaris mostly for the transport, but it was well worth it. Guide was awesome, gave you tons of food, and got along great...More

This is a great day hike a on a historic trail. Lush ferns and moss, towering giants of trees and melodic bird song are the backdrop for a walk into the wilderness. It's a scenic hour and a quarter drive along the lakeshore from Queenstown...More

When doing the 1 day hike starting from Glenorchy, did you do it yourself or through a guided walk tour company? How far up do you walk before you turn back around to get back to the spot where you originally started to catch the bus to get back to Queenstown? How long does that take? I am trying to figure out which huts I can walk to before I need to turn back around to catch my bus. I won't have my own car so will be relying on buses to get me back.
