The Milford Track was our first multi-day track we did. We chose Ultimate Hikes because we wanted it to be fun, convenient and supervised by experts. We had rain most of our trip and thanks to that, it was an amazing and unforgettable experience. We...More

We did the Routeburn Track with the team at Ultimate Hikes, which made the experience all the more memorable. I was impressed at the value for money the trail and inclusions for the 3-days. The package included all transport, accommodation (private lodges), meals, snacks, backpacks,...More

Ultimate hikes need several gold stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 this was truly an amazing experience. The only thing i would have like changed was a back up nespresso machine at Quinton Lodge for the one that broke down and a bigger range of lunch protein options for...More

Ultimate Hikes guides were great, and the tour was organised pretty well. My issue mostly is that the hike is actually over pretty dangerous terrain/mlountains, especially in the torrential rain (which falls the majority of the time as we were told once we were there)....More

The Grand Traverse with Ultimate Hikes. Wow, what a tramp. Right from minus day one, this tramp was organised. We met our fellow trampers on the afternoon before we started. We were given a briefing on what to expect and any equipment we may require,...More

I walked the Milford Track with Ultimate Hikes in April 2018 and the experience was fantastic. It was well worth the money, especially the hot showers at the lodges. It was really first class. I am 70 years old and I was concerned about my...More

We were nervous about our fitness level, being of the older 60+ age group, and city folk. We did however do as much as we could and found the temperature in the South. Island much more pleasant than Auckland’s humidity. We were nevertheless one of...More

I walked the Milford track with Ultimate Hikes in March 2018. It is expensive, but everything is 5 star - from the positive, young guides who love their job, the comfortable lodges with spacious rooms, staff at the lodges who provide top-class meals. I have...More

We stayed in Queenstown for a week and of the all activities we did the 3-day guided walk along the Routeburn track was by far the most memorable part of our short stay. While my wife and I consider ourselves to be of average fitness...More

- Would it be feasible to wash/dry in your private room rather than the dry room? (all my stuff is quick dry and I've never had a problem having dry clothes by morning.) - Are the private rooms secure (ie with locks) or is it generally a safe atmosphere? (city girl paranoia.) - I've done several hikes but struggle with quick altitude gain (ie really worried about day 2 of Milford)...is the uphill straight, or are there switchbacks, or are there areas that are flat to catch your breath? - I read they recommend that you carry 1 liter of water, but I've never gone on a hike (even a half day hike) with less than 1.5 liters and I generally finish before lunch. Are there places to fill up along the way? If so, it is feasible with just a bladder (I don't want to carry a separate bottle just to transfer water)?

Guides are very good at providing snacks and refreshment breaks (coffee, tea, water and juice) around mid morning and again at lunch. I took lots of extra water and never used it. Security is not really an issue... More
