Another way of appreciating the spirit of the settlers is to visit this typical Scottish kirk - on the opposite side of the world! New Zealand's settlement is of course much more recent than that of the US and makes for a different experience. But you could be forgiven to think that John Calvin spoke here!

There are several interesting churches in Dunedin. One of the most interesting is certainly The First Church of Otago (presbyterian). Beautiful gothic revival style.

When we visited the alter was covered in scaffolding. The interior was nice to see with lovely wooden pews, and interesting stained glass windows. Two of the windows seemed to be of a totally different style and it would have been nice to know more about them.

Having read about this building and it being considered the most impressive of New Zealand’s nineteenth century churches, we included a visit on our do it yourself walking tour. The building does look imposing in its location and you can see the Norman architectural influence. Inside however it is a bit of a hotchpotch and feels more like a museum... More

Outside there are some restaurations, so one cannot take a perfect picture. But still one can see that it's a nice building. Inside it is very clean and nice and quiet

A breathtaking building. Very unusual for a non-conformist church. The wide inside space is amazing. Don't miss it.

What an interesting old church. We decided to visit this church, seeing as it is the oldest in Dunedin. Such an interesting building, and learning some of the history from the lady inside was wonderful. So much history connected to this wonderful old church.

This is a lovely church in the heart of the city, all the more interesting when you understand its history.
