We were passengers on a cruise ship in Dunedin port for one day, which happened to be a Sunday. We knew that Mass was being celebrated at 10.30am, so made a beeline for the Cathedral as soon as we reached the city from Port Chalmers....More

Quite a distance from the main tourist area and requires a climb up a hill but the cathedral has a beautiful facade. Unfortunately, the doors were firmly closed so I was unable to see the interior.

This cathedral is at one of the high points of the city, but I am pleased I made the effort. The design is simple; a rectangular nave with a chapel adjacent to the sanctuary. There are many colourful stained glass windows. I am lucky to...More

The Dunedin Roman Catholic Cathedral really stands out in an elevated position in the city and we wished we had been inside to see it properly as we usually spend some reflection time in religious buildings wherever we go irrespective of denomination. Unfortunately we were...More

Visited on Monday 30th April. It is on the edge of the City Centre but well worth seeking it out. Beautiful Stained Glass Windows.

Visit here on weekday not on Sunday Mass, a solemn place to have a quiet short break whatever your believe. An old but truly magnificent building more than 130 years old as icon on the high ground. Beautiful stained glass windows both sides along its...More

A bit far from the tourist area, this cathedral is not frequented by visitors. However, this is most beautiful church in Dunedin in my opinion. With the stunning facade and grand architecture, St Joseph's Cathedral definitely deserves an uphill walk.

Like much of Dunedin, this is a beautifully preserved building which is very easy on the eye. And yet I had never heard anything about it. We came here for Sunday mass and it was just acheingly beautiful.

The outside of the cathedral (catholic) is more interesting than the inside. Impressive Scottisch and gothic revival style building.
