Nice little city park. I walked in about 30 minutes and there were a few things to take pictures of. My first time to New Zealand.

Victoria Square is a beautiful little park which borders on the Avon River, a very picturesque setting. We watched as several punts went by (NZ's version of a gondola). A statue of the park's namesake, Queen Victoria, is prominently displayed. Maori carvings and a lovely water fountain are also prominent features of the park, with colorful flower beds throughout. Lucky for us, it was near our hotel, so we saw it multiple times a day.

Its a lovely square with a statue for the old queen V herself. It also has the statue of Captain Cook and the Bowker fountain.
It was really lovely when we were there. Grass was lovely, flower beds were colorful.
It would be a lovely spot in the summer to sit on the grass and while an hour away.
Has some great monuments in it and is pretty park. Stop and have a look on your foot tour of Christchurch.

Home to the statue of Queen Vic, nice place for a rest enjoying the surrounds. they have done an excellent job with the restoration, definitely worth a stop during a visit to Christ Church.

Just north of Cathedral Square is Victoria Square, recently refurbished but looking pretty much like it always did, if you ask me. There are several interesting monuments housed in the Square; a statue of Captain James Cook, a Pou gifted to the city by Nga Tahu, the local iwi, a statue of the eponymous lady commemorating the soldier who didn't return from the Boer War and the Bowker Fountain, which is a big 1930's lump of red granite memorialising Mr Bowker, a local colonialist and city benefactor - not pretty at the moment with dribbly water and a green slim looking pond. Maybe they forgot to refurbish it...…

Lots of sitting places though. Popular with city workers as an outside spot for lunch and adjacent on Armagh St is an ice cream truck. Always good to know, I find!

One of the interesting areas to visit in the town centre is Victoria Square. We enjoyed viewing monuments here during our recent visit to Christchurch.

Here you can view several interesting monuments like the Queen Victoria Statue, Capt. James Cook Statue, the H.L. Bowker Fountain and the Maori Monument. The historic Victoria Bridge, a stretch of the Avon River and some nice flowerbeds can be experienced at Victoria Square.

Give the square 15-20 minutes of time enjoying the attractions here. Then carry on with other intended sightseeing in the town centre area.

Victoria Square is still under restoration so hardly worth a visit unless you're passing. It'll be so long before sites like this will be open again.
