Great spot to visit in Christchurch. Plenty of shopping available with little lanes feeding off the street that are full of shops to explore. Old historic trams run up the mall section of Cashel St and run around the surrounding area providing plenty of locations to get off and explore other areas. Do yourself a favour and go into Riverside Markets for a look around. Plenty of food and speciality shops in the markets, and out the back away from Cashels St is a large seated area along the footpath which is a great spot to have lunch and chat with friends.

The area around this street is very popular with visitors and the local residents. There are shops and restaurants and the very attractive Riverside centre is close by.

I’m not sure what this street looked like directly after the quake, but it seems to be one of the few streets in Christchurch that has got its full mojo back. Plenty of shopping opportunities and access to a wide variety of dining options. It is a pedestrian-only street - bar the occasional tram.

City Mall is the pedestrian mall comprising two sections of Cashel Street which is located in the heart of the bustling city, full of quirky cafes, bars and restaurants.

Our first two nights were in a hotel on Cashel Street, little did we know it was the main area damaged by the quake, evidence remains and the reconstruction seems to be taking longer than it should, 10 years is far too long to rebuild. Some areas on Cashel will be made parks but we were disappointed that this had been left as car parks

The main shopping street of inner city Christchurch is nothing special, except for the tram running through.
Shops and cafes like in any other city.

It was an 8x10 box! The bed rested on 3 walls! No storage for clothes! They had to remain in the luggage and shoved under the bed. You had to be on the bed to heat water for tea. A travel agency reserved this box for me. I would NEVER have booked this room myself. It was clean, however.
