The outside of the building and visible atrium architecture is quite something. However it became quite ordinary once inside. Just hallways with galleries which were bland and lacked imagination. The Music in the Front Lobby was great and really lifted the experience.

I am not a gallery person, but I enjoyed the visit very much. An eclectic mix of everything, bright and cozy building, with all the facilities you need. The staff are friendly as well. A great rainy day activity. And it’s FREE!

There were a wonderful variety of galleries to wander through. The Len Lye exhibit was interesting, make sure to have time to see all of the pieces in action! Entry was free, with optional donations.

We enjoyed the building more than the exhibitions, but presumably they change them from time to time, so next time may be better. Its a very nice space, very dramatic. Its nice to see that it was designed well enough to largely escape the earthquakes.

The Christchurch Art Gallery has reopened after undergoing big changes due to the 2011 earthquake. It's now a gorgeous, earthquake-proof building with beautiful spaces and exhibitions open to the public. There's a mix of interesting installations, local and international paintings, sculptures and more. Admission is...More
