    Views are stunning
We were pleased to have done it and especially the Discovery ride, very informative and fun. The experience could have been improved by separate queues for ticket holders versus ticket buyers, that was a confusing situation. Ditto filling the 4 person gondolas rather than letting people go in couples would have halved the waiting time. It was further out of town than we had expected and was a pretty expensive cab ride away from our hotel. That all said we would do it again and enjoyed the views from the top.

Great views, well worth the short trip from city centre
Lucky enough to have perfect weather, great views and not too many people when we visited. Easy bus ride from centre of town, (28 bus), perhaps taking 15 to 20 minutes. Easy to access the gondolas and if you have any mobility issues they will stop the car completely to allow you to get on or off, nice cafe at the top but without doubt the views are the thing here. Crystal clear day allowed for all round views and plenty of opportunities to walk around and pick your spot to admire the stunning coastline.

    Worth a visit
This wasn't on our list of things to do whilst in Christchurch as the gondolas are located well outside the city. We discovered, by chance, that a No. 28 bus departs from the central bus station and drops you off right outside the gondola entrance. The return bus fare only cost NZ2.10 per person, so very cheap. The gondola ride costs $35 per person, which may seem high, but the views across to Christchurch and Lyttleton harbour are well worth the trip. rery windy when we visited but still Recommended if time allows.

One of the Best Photo Spots of Christchurch
We had perfect weather in Christchurch and you can't complain about the views from the Gondola. On the ride up, we spotted a couple goats nibbling away! Up top, its pretty commercial but the views make the trip and the fee worth it.
Thanks for taking the time to visit the Gondola. We agree the views are really amazing and we are glad you loved them too. Rose:)

Worth a morning or afternoon visit
A short ride out of town can be accessed by bus or taxi as well as own car. The ride is good, gondola hold approx 4 adults and weren’t busy when we visited. Views over the city from the top are stunning ( need a clear day), the history tour is also included and the highlight was the member of staff who had a brilliant banter with the public , she made the ride !
Kia ora Dave, Thank you for writing such a beautiful review! We take pride in our friendly staff and we're pleased to hear you had a good laugh with them. Jade :)

    A worthwhile excursion
The Christchurch Gondola is well worth the 20 minute drive out of town. The views are magnificent, assuming the clouds have cleared away. In fact, even if there are clouds, they may clear while you are up on the mountain. Additionally, there are plenty of hiking paths for every level of hiker. An additional bonus were the sheep grazing nearby.
Kia ora Ron, Thank you for your wonderful review! You must come back in Spring to see the sheep and their lambs on the hill. Jade :)

    Great fun and amazing views
The Gondola in Christchurch gives amazing views over the city and form the top you can look down over the port of Lyttelton. You can drive there or catch the #28 bus to Lyttelton which will stop right at the entrance to the Gondola. You can buy tickets at the entrance or in Christchurch at the tramway office. It's a bit cheaper if you buy tram and Gondola tickets together. At the top of the Gondola there's the great Red Rock Cafe, a number of walking trails, great views and the Christchurch Discovery Ride which takes you through various scenes depicting the history of Christchurch from early volcanic activity to early settlement- really interesting and a fun ride. If the weather if inclement- especially if windy or foggy, check that the Gondola is open as it doesn't run if conditions are bad.
Kia ora, Thank you for your great review and for providing accurate information. We are happy to hear you enjoyed our Discovery Ride! Jade :)

    Enjoyed our Gondola experience
We arrived by cruise ship on 31 March 2023. It was a cloudy morning so we decided to take the advice of others and leave the Gondola until the afternoon which was a wise decision. By about 2pm the weather had cleared. The queue was short and we only had to wait until 10-15 minutes to purchase our tickets and board the Gondola. The ride up was great and once we reached the top we stayed a couple of hours to enjoy the views. There were walking trails for those who wanted to venture out. Paragliders in the sky at times. There is a gift shop (of course!) and cafe. This was the highlight of our visit to Christchurch, so we were glad the weather was kind to us by the afternoon. Christchurch is a beautiful city.

Great to get an overview of Christchurch
Great to get an overview of Christchurch. It was good to see how the city sat in relation to the ocean, Lyttleton and the surrounding countryside. We loved the views and the shop was great. Our only problem was finding out how to get there by public transport, after having been given some bad advice at the City Bus Terminal. Well worth the trip.
Thanks for visiting the Gondola and we pleased you enjoyed our beautiful views of the city, Alps and ocean. Rose:)

Well managed experience, even enjoyed the bonus ride in history at the top. Well worth taking the family for a drink and snack at the cafe and walk around outside to enjoy the views. I picked a day with awesome weather. So had superb views and photo opportunities

We visited Christchurch on a beautiful Saturday, with perfect weather, off a large cruise ship, so everywhere seemed to be busy. That is by no means the ‘fault’ of the operator, but it did affect our experience.

We pre-purchased our tickets as part of the Christchurch Attractions pass, incorporating the historic tram & Avon punting.

I don’t believe that there is any benefit in pre-purchasing. We still had to join the very long queue when we arrived- I didn’t and still don’t understand why. We spent much longer it both queues (top & bottom) than we did at the summit. In face, we spent less than 10 minutes at the summit (excluding our time in the queue to come back down.

Yes, the views were impressive, particularly of the Lyttleton Bay Area.

The gondola is about 15-20 minutes from the city centre and, not knowing any better, we purchased tickets (not included in the Pass) from the tram to the gondola. Cost was $30 for the two of us. It only runs once an our so we purchased our return ticket on the local city bus service - for $8 for the two of us!! It returned us to the middle of the city just as quickly as the dedicated service.

We arrived soon after opening and were able to purchase tickets easily and quickly. The gondola ride itself was a huge hit with our one year old who enjoyed spying the ocean, sheep and other gondolas. Us adults loved the view at the top of the mountain, particularly the sparkling blue water on the Lyttelton side.

The cafe/restaurant at the top had plenty of options and the staff were able to assist with our allergen questions. The staff were also friendly and accommodating.

We suggest arriving early. When we got to the bottom at approximately 11am, the line was snaked out the door with buses of people continuing to arrive regularly.

Really enjoyed the ride in the gondola and on the Monday we were there it was very quiet with no queues. Great views from the top. Get a dual ticket for the gondola and the Christchurch tram

It’s about a 10 minute ride up to the top and it’s totally worth it. The views of the area on a clear day are amazing. I highly recommend getting there as early as possible to avoid the crowds.

Of course, the views from the gondola and top of hill were beautiful! There is a small restaurant at the top but didn't stay as it was very busy. Very nice gift shop at top as well. Not really worth the travel time unless you plan to eat at the top or hike around.

40 min wait to get on at 2pm. Maybe better going earlier or plan to wait. Didn’t seem to make a difference for those who had pre-purchased tickets online.

Amazing view once you get off.
