Visit the amazing International Antartica Centre.
We thoroughly enjoyed visiting the International Antarctic Centre. We appreciated the opportunity to talk to the guides and the man with the huskies. We learnt a great deal about Antartica's past and present and hope that the future will be promising with such a dedicated team of people providing information. Plus who can resist close up viewing of little penguins swimming in their enclosure? We recommend at least three hours as there is so much to see, do and learn. An early start helps as there are fewer people there then.
Thanks for your lovely review! Our team are definitely passionate about what they do, so reviews like this make our day.

    Experience Antarctica without actually going
We spent a couple of hours here and thoroughly enjoyed our visit - we had a ride in a Haaglund - the type of vehicle that's used in Antarctica, stood in the cold room and experienced an icy wind and below zero temperatures (warmly dressed in the jackets provided) and had a good look at all the displays. We watched the penguin feeding - good viewing from below and above. All in all well worth the admission. Plenty of parking and it was only a stones throw from the airport.
Thanks for your lovely review :)

A great experience for kids and adults! loved all the information, as well as the antactic storm simulator, the 4D film and the penguins! unfortunately we missed the huskies but it's good that they take a lot of breaks!
We're glad you enjoyed your family day out, Sophie!

    Great experience
This place gives you an experience! Very glad we went there. In addition to a movie that really pulls you in, there is a good ride in an Antarctic vehicle, live penguins, and a room to experience Antarctic weather. Anyone interested in Antarctica and kids alike will love it.
Thank you for your five-star review! We're thrilled you had an enjoyable day with us.

    Fantastic!
Easy to find with heaps of parking. So much to see & do! Heaps of interesting exhibits. The 3D theatre was fun, plenty of oohs, ash’s & laughter. Seeing & being able to pat Husky dogs was so special, they were so placid, their owner/handler was so generous with his time & information. The visit in the snow room was a bit of fun, cold & windy. Watching the little penguins being fed & the keeper presentation was great fun & informative. We had a great time & would have to say it’s a don’t miss activity! Food at the cafe was good & not over priced. All the staff were very friendly.
We're delighted to hear that you had an enjoyable visit. We appreciate your positive feedback about the food at the cafe and the friendly staff. It's fantastic to know that you had such a memorable and informative experience.

    Loved it!
Well worth the time and admission fee. The rides, films, and husky presentation experiences are based on set times. Best to go in the morning or early afternoon to catch everything.

    A great day in Antarctica!
Had a wonderful visit to the Antarctic center! So much to see and do! We spent 4 hours there and got to ride in the vehicle, go backstage with the penguins, meet the huskies, and much more! Had a great experience here and learned much! Take your time through the interactive exhibits, have fun, and enjoy!!

Great visit! Great to try when you’re in Christchurch.
Had an amazing time at the exhibit – we saw Penguin feeding, braved an Antarctic storm in an enclosed space, enjoyed a 4D movie, touched the Huskies, and even took a ride in the impressive Hagglund, the specialized all-terrain vehicle used in Antarctica. Almost a perfect score, if only the staffs were more helpful. The team near the Storm Experience room unfortunately weren’t attentive, didn’t proactively provide information until someone asked questions. However the Hagglund driver and the 4D Theatre attendant were very helpful and friendly. Overall it was great experience and we would recommend anyone who visit Christchurch to come and visit this place!

    A Must Do
This is an opportunity not to be missed. Many one of experiences to be had here, from the Hagglund ride, 4D cinema and seeing huskies. Amazing information about Antarctica and real time camera views. Got to experience a blizzard. Our guide was very informative and helpful.

    A unique tourist entertainment facility
As per the warnings, the ride in the Hagglund vehicle is bumpy and not for those were back problems or who are pregnant. The penguin feeding is somewhat underwhelming. There are seats for perhaps 20 people, but over 50 were crammed into the space. With waiting for the feeding to begin and observing the feeding, people were standing for about a half hour. This is problematic for seniors like me who have problems standing. Please consider installing more seating. There are lots of other smaller exhibits to view. If you find this review helpful, please give a like. You may also want to read my reviews of other tourist facilities in Christchurch, as well as in Auckland, Wellington and Brisbane, Australia.

The Center was very interesting. There was a lot to see. I really enjoyed the VIP Penguin session-got to see the penguins and learn more about them. Also loved the Husky dogs lounging around waiting for people to pet them. Highly recommend.

We loved our visit. Such a great place for adults and children, very interactive. Penguins are so cute, definitely recommend watching the feeding. We saw the Husky dogs, which was the high point of the visit. Can't wait to come back again

Do visit the Inter’l Antarctic Centre, SENIORS, DO NOT BOOK A TICKET ONLINE.

I had an excellent visit to the Centre itself. The venue is replete with visual and sensory exhibits ranging from some live and equally adorable sledge dogs to a mock up of life on the

We did not enjoy this. The Haggland experience and snow storm were relatively well executed but the rest was dull and lacklustre. The 4D cinema was far from immersive and really very poor. Overall, we feel we wasted our money

Who hasn’t been fascinated by Antarctica? When you’re in New Zealand you’re about as close to it as you can be. Our time in Christchurch included a visit to the Antarctic Center and it was well worth while.

Very interesting exhibits, very immersive to give you a sense what life is like there for scientists and support staff. Located next to the airport, Christchurch is the departure airport for flights to and from the Antarctic.

We even got to ride in the types of vehicles use for transportation in Antarctica and a nice surprise was seeing some Huskies.

Great place to visit.

We loved our visit, especially seeing the blue penguins and experiencing the Hagglund course. Staff are very knowledgeable and helpful and the storm dome was really fun. We learned a lot and had a blast. Totally lives up to the recommendations online and word of mouth.

More than a museum, add discovery center, activity center, research facility, educational exhibit, just ..Wow!
Ever since reading about Ernest Shackleton, the Antarctic has held me in awe, seeing the exhibits of his and Scott’s base camps with survival gear made it so clear. Then the Antarctic storm chamber gave you a real glimpse of the conditions, not to mention the 3D voyage to the Antarctic. We caught the penguin feeding at 3:00 and the well trained and well taken care of, and friendly husky dogs lifted the entire experience to a do not miss this, we Loved it!! Staff was better than great, every one of them, from ticket counter to departure. Thank you all; well done!!

Unless you are prepared to do a whole lot of reading, which children aren’t, then the centre doesn’t offer a lot of info. The Dog sled display was hugely disappointing, the presenter just the early explorers into the ground with a , try to be funny presentation, lacked fact and purpose.we weren’t even show how the dogs work.
There was a good 3 D show which the children liked , but no commentary.
The cold experience in the chiller room was fun, but again no commentary….the technology is out there but sadly not encompassed at the Antarctic Centre , rated 3/10

Absolutely fantastic. There was a 4
D Theatre, another theatre, live penguins, and a meet and greet with the huskies. The best thing was the simulated snow storm room, it was so cold, but anazing. Dont miss this if you are in Chritchurch.

The Center itself was pretty cool, but standing in line for the Hagglund ride a cafe employee came out and was extremely rude to a mother of a newborn about which bin she had disposed of her diaper. It was totally unprofessional as she did it in front of an entire group of people instead of pulling the lady aside and talking to her in a respectful manner. Having a newborn is hard enough without being dressed down in front of a crowd. Extremely unprofessional and kinda ruined the experience.
