We had to be ferried across this lake on our way to Doubtful Sound. The ferry ride is about 45 minutes so there is ample opportunity to admire the stunning scenery which surrounds the lake. On each side there are snow-capped mountains which we were lucky enough to see bathed in sunlight. A stunning experience.

Lake Manapouri was a highlight of our Sth Island trip. Spectacularly beautiful. Dont miss the wharf area as it is so beautiful and has stunning reflections of the mountains in the water

Beautiful and relaxing lake to visit. You are able to see the lake on your left when you travelled from Invercargill to Te Anau. There are a few parking spaces for visitors.

This is a lovely and picturesque lake, we stopped over by on our way to Te Anau.
While there wasn't much to do around the lake in the late afternoon, it was still a great place for some photo-ops.

Beautiful lake surrounded by snowy mountains.
I camped in a very nice camping ground, fully equipped, very close to the lake.
The weather was very sunny. This lake is one of the most beautiful I have seen in the South Island.
During my visit to the Doubtful Sound I have had the opportunity to cross the lake by boat. Unforgettable!

Stayed at Manapouri Camping Grounds. Beautiful setting with Lake Manapouri looking stunning. There were great sunsets, and sunrises, the camping ground had all amenities such as showers, toilets, kitchen, tv room, and a short walk to the café.

Such a quiet spot and with such stunning view. We arrived with probably only another 10 people on the frasers beach and the view is simply stunning. Absolutely a hidden gem and only 20 mins away from Te anau.

We visited Lake Manapouri on a hot January day & walked the track along the lakefront. We were blown away by how beautiful the lake is with the surrounding mountains.

The scenery is absolutely stunning, out of this world! You and the nature, this is all that matters. Not so many tourists, but welcoming kiwis, I couldn't ask for more. My heart is on Manapouri Lakes shore...

If you have a few days, rent a wee Bach, kiwi for a self-contained, self catering accommodation and enjoy the peace away from Te Anau, full of budget accommodation, tour companies etc etc. you will have to bring in your food and drink as there are very limited supplies at Manapouri. There is a creditable restaurant at the Lakeview Motel and you can get an early morning coffee at their small harbour, Pearl Harbour, where the cruises for Doubtful Sound kick off!

We were shown thick line markings on the rocks along the south side of the Lake on our return from Wilmott Pass trip - visible from the boat on the rocks near the water. Can't remember what they were formed by. Can you help
