Well Wellington, with all you have to offer this certainly is a stand out point for me. To my measurements, they were the perfect stairs. It has everything! In the morning, it's ideal for the work go-ers, day time for city go-ers and finally a clever shortcut for the party go-ers. IT'S FOR ALL GO-ERS! Despite not being particularly pleasant to stare at, it captures the thriving culture of Wellington!

Well to be honest the steps are pretty average but the history behind John Plimmer and his place in Wellingtons history is interesting. Save the data on your memory stick and skip the pic of the steps but make sure u read the plaque to pick up the history option.

I'm not sure I think of the steps as being a tourist attraction, they've simply been here forever. Certainly the bronze Mr Plimmer and his dog are popular with tourists and very photographed.
John Plimmer was a local identity for many years last century and was often seen walking his dog in the area. The bronze statue is a more recent addition to the stairs between Lambton Quay and Boulcott Street.

These steps are a nice dedication to John Plimmer whose statue is located nearby to these steps. Plimmer was an entrepreneur in New Zealand who has been called the "Father of Wellington".

Really amazing steps that go up as you walk up them and down when you walk down them. Kiwi ingenuity at its finest.

Not much to say about them, a useful pathway from Lambton Quay if you need it and the statue at the bottom is nice. They are quite steep though so don't overestimate yourself when walking up. Worth a stop if you're going past but wouldn't recommend putting in an effort to see them.

These are normal steps taking you to a higher level. Nothing special and not worth making an effort to see. Great statue at the bottom. You may pass them on the way to the cable car.

Agree with others - not sure how this has gotten into the attractions of Wellington. The steps are steps - a way to get from a to b. The statue at the bottom is of some interest if passing but so not worth seeking out as an "attraction".

John Plimmer (28 June 1812 – 5 January 1905) was an English settler and entrepreneur in New Zealand who has been called the "Father of Wellington".This steep , though attractive lane goes from Lambton Quay to Boulcott Street .
There is a statue of John and his dog at the Lambton Quay end of the lane. They are not just steps but indicative of the hard life and times of a man who was determined to good for this city. He is being honoured by have his own steps, lane and statue of him and his beloved dog. The history behind the man is being overlooked here.

I am sure they are good for you. We walked up these because they invite you to do so. Although not for the faint hearted. I really like the statue of John Plimmer at the entrance of the stairs. John Plimmer (1812–1905) has been called the Father of Wellington. In the course of a long life he was a builder, businessman and civic leader. Apparently John used to be seen walking the area with his dog. So it's a point of local interest. So... go ahead, give those Plimmer steps a go. :)
