We needed a place to stop at for just one night, picking up our son from Welly airport. The owners of the motel were very polite. On arrival they showed us around allowed us to look at the room before we had even paid. The room was very comfortable great king size bed rooms were a little on the small side but how much room do you need if it really only to sleep in. We ended up staying 2 nights and prebooked a one night stay for the return drop off. Kia ora foreshore motel

Lovely place to relax and walk along the beach. Plenty of places to sit down. Just wish there was more sand instead of the rocks and shells.

Made the mistake of booking four nights at the Foreshore in September 2008. Charge for one bedroom apartment was $140 per night - we had a baby so needed the bedroom.

We knew something was wrong on arrival - there was a woman sitting in the office just staring at a computer screen, who ignored us when we walked in. When she noticed that we were there, she simply shouted to her poor husband who did all the checking in. To be fair, he was very friendly and helpful but she was just weird and hostile.

The rooms were tiny, with no space to move around. The owner said a kitchen was included, however this was really just a microwave and a stovetop with a miniscule bench. There was an old, dusty smell to the place.

This really is a tired, grubby old motel which advertises itself to be much more and charges accordingly. When I mentioned this to the owners, they were offended and didn't seem to care about keeping our business. We moved out the next day to a brand new, two bedroom apartment just up the road which only cost $15 per night more.

Even though it was very windy, we really enjoyed our walk along the Petone Foreshore - the colours of the ocean, the views and the jetty made it a lovely afternoon.

Went to this place after getting out from home for a walk. This place is good for fishing and just to have some peaceful time with your loved ones.

This stretch is always littered with driftwood and other stuff so, don't be brave and think you can walk there without footwear. Its not a great beach but some locals like it. If you can contend with dog poop, pollution and strong winds then hey, its the place for you but, don't go planning a day outing - an hour visit is sufficient and you'll feel satisfied to tick it off your "to do' list.

Petone Beach is never going to be a major holiday destination...the sand is too grey, but it has a wonderful outlook across the harbour to the entrance, is great for photo opps, and is a great way to stretch those legs and take in a bit of history. The wharf, the first settler touch point and a museum are distributed along the front. Nearby is Matiu-Somes Island, and you will also find a great art gallery at the far end. Also nearby is access to fresh aquifer water which many locals swear by for health and its taste! When you need a reviver there are heaps of great cafes dotted along the main drag of Petone, lots of historical buildings, and quaint small shops with all sorts in. There are so few places where you can find small shops like this. I really hope they dont try to build a mall there anytime soon!
