If you don't want to swim in the sea in winter there is the heated Freyberg swimming pool, but many do swim here all winter. On a hot Wellington summer's day, the beach is packed with city workers. The fountain plays, the people promenade, and the cafes and ice cream shops boom. Easy to get to by foot around the... More

I walked around from the waterfront near Ta Papa on a lovely sunny day. There's plenty of cafes and places to grab a coffee or ice cream, and plenty of spots to stop and sit and people watch.

Oriental bay is just on the outskirts of the city, but close enough that if you're wanting to do something like Te Papa, then take a walk you can do so along Oriental bay. It has really wide paths that are shared by walkers, runners, cyclists, skateboarders etc etc and is nice and flat, just about the only part of... More

Very pleasant to stroll along the waterfront in the evening with no agenda. If you're looking for lots of night life or each, this is not the place. But if you just want to absorb atmosphere and feel the vibes of the sea with constant wind, this is it. Very interesting town house facades along the way and the trees... More

Every time we come to Wellington, it has been a good day. Therefore, we always travel by car the complete circuit of Oriential Bay (as well as a walk in different parts). The houses on the hills, with their elevators, are fascinating. The boat sheds are beautiful. This trip my daughter and I did our tour around the bay, then... More

Oriental Bay is probably the only flat land in Wellington. It's brilliant for walking dogs, running, biking or swimming in the sea. I haven't personally sunbathed because Wellington is too unpredictable, but on a good day, people lie on the beach or play beach volleyball. Oriental Bay has great cafes and ice cream shops.

Oriental Bay is a fun stop while visiting Wellington. There are nice sandy beaches, fun little shops located on the board walk. Pedal karts to tour the area with... suggest the one hour rental if you choose this activity. Always interesting and fun buying fresh fish off the wharf. Cut anyway you want it and reasonable priced. There is also... More
