Yes its full of loud and boisterous young people but for us it was a sign of life. Go with care !Visited January 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 27 January 2023
- travelbob1New Windsor, New York1,135 contributionsGo for a block or twoWalked up this street because of its proximity to Pa Tae museum. It is simply an outdoor street mall of shops. With few exceptions most are typical shopping venues. Occasionally there is some street performance or music. Simply walking a block or two should be enough.Visited January 2023Written 20 February 2023
- JElliot32New South Wales, Australia3,800 contributionsIt's just got the vibeI first visited Cuba St in the 1970s and loved it then. Fifty years later, I still love it. It's probably my favourite street in the world. It is not an especially long street but it is lively from one end to the other. I like its vitality, its diversity, its friendliness, the streetlife, the colour and movement ... not to mention the many bars, cafes and restaurants. Of course, the fact that it is fully pedestrianised helps no end. Was there for CubaDupa festival this year, when it was even more fun than usual.Visited April 2023Written 20 April 2023

This street was quite amazing. I stumbled on it by accident while on my Town to Coast Walkway. It was a blend of 'aged hippy and student'

We loved walking up and down this quirky trendy street, frequented by locals and visitors alike, our fave part was the secondhand shop, they were so much fun, to explore.

This is where the tourists and locals go for great shops, cafes and restaurants. The streetscape itself has fantastic art pieces and lots of benches to sit and people watch.

though this area was featured in the December 2022 New York Times article, 36 Hours in Wellington, I found it was a waste of some of my hours. Lots of litter, disappointing restaurants and only mediocre coffee in a country with a fabulous coffee culture.

It's noisy, crowded and there's really nothing noteworthy to suggest spending much time there. It may be a destination for the younger set, but there's better shopping and dining elsewhere.

Are there hotels on Cuba St?
Piotr M

I am not sure if there is a big hotel on Cuba Street, but definitely there are some rooms or apartments to rent, this street has low rise buildings, so I would not expect to have anything big, but you should be able to find something there. Good luck

Hi, yes, this is an open street for only people to walk for most part, there are many restaurants and bars plus some shops, up the street there is a very good fish and chips place - highly recommend.
