Struggled to find it at all. Walked up and down Taranaki St. The directions from both I site wellington and Google were wrong. Despite the hours on the door saying open 7 days from 9am til 5pm it was closed when we finally found it at 2pm on a Saturday.

Incredible, worth the visit for young and old alike. It was so colourful, and very insightful into the mind of an accentric artiste.

I don’t want to diminish the importance of the Te Aro Pa site, but for the tourist I thought it was underwhelming. It is simply a room off the street, with two glassed off excavation sections. There are some informative boards in the room, but the excavations contain just a few exhibits. Take a quick look if you are walking... More

Te Aro Pa was a thriving Maori village located in what is now central Wellington. European settlement eventually covered the village. When a Victorian building was demolished a few years ago to make way for an apartment building, the remains of some of the whare (huts) from Te Aro Pa were found.
