With the steam coming from fissures all over the place, this attraction is very interesting and not highly developed. The lack of trees indicates that volcanic activity has been quite recent. The walk is on prepared walkways. It is when you take the Top Walk and look down from above that you can really appreciate the name of this region.... More

Wow! Craters of the moon is like nothing else I have ever seen. The walk is super interesting and we were simply amazed that in the middle of beautiful forest you had this crazy landscape. I highly recommend a visit here! Best of all the entry price is very very fair ($NZD 8 per adult)

This is a nice walk out in the country thru a lot of steam vents, some with bubbling mud. There is a neat boardwalk to get you around and it is an easy walk, unless you decide to do the high lookout path ( you don't have to)! It takes about 40-60 mins to complete. Entrance is 8NZ/adult. There are... More

Craters of the moon is a great thermal park which requires you to walk through the volcanic field on designated paths, fairly easy walking ,great for photography

As part of our recent trip to NZ, we visited the Craters of the moon. We spent about 45 minutes to an hour walking around the place and loved every second of it. Great photo opportunities and nature at its best. To cap it off, the ladies at the counter were very helpful and also had a wonderful sense of... More

Really good walk! Must see in the north island! Informative plaques but otherwise left to get on with it. Not too busy! Perfect

Pouring with rain but still warm due to the amazing amount of steam. Quite a weird landscape - almost prehistoric, worth the $4 entrance fee

Took visiting family here for a trip down memory lane when it used to be free. It's a lot better now it's ran commercially as its safe and has boardwalks. It was cheap and very well set out. Great location, easy to find and a good bit of exercise on route for an hour. Opposite Huka Falls do you cant... More

An easy to manage boardwalk and gravel path trail around the steaming fields. To be honest at times I was a little underwhelmeds by the attraction.
