We visited this park right on opening at 8:30am in Late February and were pleasantly surprised that we were the only ones there! The brisk morning provides wonderful scenery as the steam vents really put on a show! As the heat of the day arrives...More

This feature used to be FREE but now they've fenced it off and charge you for a nature walk. I am getting so tired of paying for nature walks in New Zealand. I've picked up backpackers who tell me they cannot afford to see so...More

Easy to get to, easy to get around, great spot to enjoy basic thermal activity. Well worth a visit especially if you have a tight schedule.

I recently visited this park and it was a good experience. For an entry fee of $8NZD the trail around the park took about an hour, including the extra lookout loop. I drove from Taupo town centre to the park on my way to Tuaranga....More

This is an educational site to visit and you can walk at a leisurely pace to see everything on your own time. I enjoyed taking tons of photos here.

It was an interesting walk through to see fissures bellowing gases from earth's belly. A pleasant afternoon exercise, but honestly it would not be on the top of my to do list. Nonetheless, it was a good lesson in geology and geothermal activity.

We went here before rotorua so had nothing to compare to. The walk is easy the craters are interesting and a couple very noisy. I'm glad we did this one First as the others are much larger and more impressive. However for the entry price...More

A genuinely recent creation, with the fumaroles and other features becoming active after the opening of the geothermal power station in 1958. Good boardwalk and good signboards. In addition very helpful staff who shared information regarding the wider area.

This one of those places that is interesting to visit because it is unique, but it becomes boring very quickly. After the first fifteen minutes you've seen what is to be seen. We never really saw mud pools boiling, and apparently this is subject to...More

Just outside Taupo, this is a refreshing little walk across a wood / dirt path in a small valley of brush, steam holes, and one bubbling mud steam pool. Took us 45 minutes and was an easy walk with many different views of steaming holes...More

A small attraction but a good view of the hot water Geisers and steam from the underground hot water pools. Well designed and as a charitable trust only a small charge to enter which you feel is going to good use rather than someones profit.

A relatively (compared with other attractions nearby) cheap venue which provides a good introduction to the geothermal activity within this area. There is plenty of noise, steam and smells to keep you entertained and a good gift shop, if you like that sort of thing.
