I would describe this as a 'junior'geothermal park. Lots and lots of steaming pools and pits of various sizes, and several bubbling mud pits too. But no spectacular geysers, and... read more

I would describe this as a 'junior'geothermal park. Lots and lots of steaming pools and pits of various sizes, and several bubbling mud pits too. But no spectacular geysers, and little beautiful colours. Good paving and boardwalk for getting around. Only $8, described as a payment for car park security. Fair enough but a poor indictment of the area if... More

We were on our way to Napier and stopped to see the HUKA falls. As we started to leave we saw the sign for the Craters of the Moon and decided to check it out. So glad we did. The admission was $8.00 per person and I was not sure it would be worth it but I was wrong. The... More

For the price it is fun to see the earth "smoke" . We did this and Orakei Korako, both different. It gets very warm walking around with all the steam being released.

Nature is such a turnabout - from raging Falls to quirky mud bubbles coming up from the earth and emitting gas. Quite a site to wander around this park. It is worth a walk up to the Lookout. To see steam rising out of geysers, in the middle of nowhere, on a fault that appears right in front of your... More

The unique feature of this park va other thermal parks is that this has lots of greenery. However the activity level is nothing as volatile as the ones we saw at Wai o tapu and hells gate. It's just simply not dramatic. But it's cheap and pram friendly.

Go on a wet day as this will definitely add to the experience. Amazing place and very interesting for all ages. It cost $8 but is well worth the money and lasts for apx an hour. I really enjoyed the activity.

I enjoyed visiting Craters of the Moon. Was not expecting to pay $8, but for a good cause. Nice walkways and good scenic views!

For an NZD8.00 entry fee, we spent about an hour walking through this interesting area with steam coming up around us. The walkway was very easy to navigate with good walking surfaces. There was an optional steeper part which provided more distant views over the area to the surrounding mountains. The mud pools weren't very active as they were somewhat... More

A great geothermal spot with a 45 min circular walk around the various craters venting volcanic steam. Highly recommend as there are very few places in the world to see this type of activity
