This is a short walk through a field of steam vents. The terrain is easy to navigate. Take the short loop up to the viewing area for a good view down to the lake. You'll be there for no more than an hour.

We found ourselves in Taupo with no plans and so came across the Craters of the Moon. For only $8 we spent a good hour wandering around these thermals and enjoying the unique landscape. Well worth a visit!

Very interesting to see the steam vents and Geo thermal activity up close. Reasonably priced with some excellent views from the top part of the walk.

My friends and I visited the Crater's of the Moon as we had seen online that it was free to enter. Once we arrived we saw it was $8 to get in! We had heard before that it wasn't worth it but the weather was crap and we didn't have much else to do. It was nice to go in... More

The walk around the craters takes around an hour with good views of steam vents and mud pools. It is reasonably priced however Rotorua does it better and that's only an hour away by car. If travelling further afield than Taupo, there a better showcases of geothermal activity around

This is a lovely undisturbed natural area of geothermal activity which you can walk around in about 1-1.5 hours. There is a boardwalk so the going is easy & there are plenty of places to stop & be mesmerised by the steam & bubbling pools. At an entry price of $8 its a bargain!

This attraction is set out amazingly and was an absolute blast! It was easy to find and to get around. Signs were posted around the park to easily inform the guests and the two ladies out the front were lovely and pleasant. I would definitely recommend to others.

We were in Rotorua three years ago. Although the Craters of the Moon does not compare as a spectacle it is still very interesting and well worth the price of admission. There was a lot of geo-thermal activity and it's always fun to get covered in hot sulphur-smelling steam.
