Just outside of Taupō, within the largest geothermal field in New Zealand, Craters of the Moon is rich with steaming fumaroles, bubbling mudpools and colorful craters. After spending some time in Rotorua---a town with so many hot springs and steaming vents it seems to be...More

Absolutely worth a visit. $8 NZ entry fee for an easy walk around some of the most amazing geothermal activity. Great for young and old.

Only $8 for the entry for an adult, this place is a wonderful place. There are so many steams coming out from big and small craters. The walk along the pathway is well maintained. There are some platforms for larger craters. Mount Tauhara on the...More

Not expensive place to visit and it's great value for money. There were pavements everywhere. If you are travelling with children, you should take an extra care, because it could be very dangerous to step away from the pavements.

A great 30 minute walk around this interesting site. It is reasonably priced. $20 for a family. It is close to other good sites, such as Huka Falls.

Our whole family enjoyed the walk around. All the steam creating a very atmospheric and fun walk for our 7 year old twins. You must pay to enter which we didnt realise before we arrived but it was worth the price.

A gentle introduction for those new into the geothermal area, this park is inexpensive, takes under an hour and showcases some of the basic fumaroles/ mud pools that you will see on a grander scale later in your trip. For those already experienced in the...More

I am beginning to think you must be blind? "Craters of the Moon" is the title of my post in response to yours under the same heading!
