In August 2015 Whakarewarewa received recognition as one of the Lonely Planets’ Top 500 Ultimate Travel Destinations, being ranked at #276 in the world. he Living Maori Village is set among the geothermal landscape of the Te Whakarewarewa Valley, a ten minute walk from town. See the Geysers, Bubbling Pools, Mud Pools, and Steam Vents and walk our back tracks with amazing photo opportunities. The Living Maori Village is an authentic and unique attraction where the villagers live, cook and bath in the geothermal waters on a daily basis. The entry fee includes a fully guided tour and Maori Cultural Performance, including the world famous HAKA. Our guides are direct descendants of the guides who guided at the Pink and White Terraces over 170 years ago, this legacy is as important today as it was then.

We had a lovely friendly guide who had a nice loud voice so was easy to hear. Really enjoyed hearing about specific living conditions such as how they cook and bathe in the thermal pools and personal family stories rather than generic "poi making" etc...More

We did a few Maori cultural experiences while in Rotorua but the Whakarewarewa Living Village was unquestionably the most informative and personable. There was none of the commercial glitz of the other hangis, just a true sharing of culture. Throughout the dances, the performers explained what...More

We toured the Maori Thermal Village to get a sense of Maori Culture without doing the night show. Tours are available hourly but we did a self-guided tour which is easy with the guide book provided and the numbered stations. It was interesting to see...More

The cultural show was top notch! Though the weather was terrible when we visited, we still spent hours there having a look. The villagers are lovely and hospitable. I highly recommend the hangi package and if not that, then the hangi pie is yummy!More

The village was lovely, as were the people and the show was awesome (including the haka), but the mud pools and thermal pools were disappointing compared to others. Hells Gate is better for that, but they don't have a show, so you have to weigh...More
