Just took the Kiwi behind the scenes tour but very informative. They are doing a terrific job of helping the Kiwi's come back from years of reductions in their population size. Well worth the visit.

A lovely place. Very engaging guide showed us fish and birds in a lovely garden setting. The real star was the kiwi chick being weighed. Then under artificial lights, an adult kiwi on the other side of the glass. Magical.

Rainbow Springs is a well laid out and nicely kept nature park, particularly if you like birds, fish and lizards. I was fascinated by the well designed aviaries which allow you into the bird's space without the risk of them flying out. Kiwis are nocturnal so you're not likely to see them in the wild. As such, the Kiwi display... More

Nice late afternoon place to visit. We were able to see the kiwis and chicks in the kiwi house. We saw all the native birds and bought fish food to feed the trout and salmon. We did the log ride and visited the gift shop. Nice afternoon

The main reason we stopped here was to see the kiwis. Unfortunately in the room where the adult kiwis are located we only saw one kiwi. The room is dark since they are nocturnal animals so unless they were close up to the windows, it is hard to see them. We did see some babies, however, since they were in... More

Visited for the few hours with our daughter and family from Australia, the weather was overcast it but did not dampen our spirits. Weaving through the displays of trout (of which eluded me this season), the animals and the birds was interesting. We watched the show with the birds who where not impressed with the rain either. The cafe had... More

We wanted so much to see kiwis during our trip to NZ! We went in the evening just to see them. If the dark aviary is quiet enough (and it was.... We had it for us at a certain point) you get the chance to see the kiwis walking around in their fenced living area . It was magic!!!! To... More

Don't let the name confuse you, this is a nature park that will let you discover much more than trout: 1 Redwood trees that grow better here than in California 2 how smart kias are 3 the natural nocturnal habitat of kiwis where they sleep 18-20 hours a day and have the shortest beak (tip to nostril) 4 so many...
