Waikato Museum

This museum has a very broad range of displays. From marionettes to Maori art and religion. It sits right ok the river walk so the two can be enjoyed together.

What happened to this place? It was once full of creative spaces about history and the displays were really hands on we could spend hours in there. Not now its like visiting an old museum again there is just lots of information and no creativity at all. It was really sad and disappointing I felt like I had stepped back... More

Like many of new Zealand's museums and galleries this is a first class effort and worth the effort. The predominance of local displays is a little repetitious but is highly informative and educational. we were only traveling through and are pleased we had the opportunity to visit this special place.

Hamilton Museum is located right in the city overlooking the river. It is modern, well laid out and one of the more interesting museums I have visited in NZ. Very interesting Maori history represented here

This is not a bad place to fill in an hour or two. It is free although you can pay for extras. We found the WWI and WWII history very interesting and informative. I think that a visit here is worth it. The museum is located at the south end of town on Victoria Street.

Believe it or not! I spent FOUR HOURS yesterday in this interactive very child-friendly museum with my 3 grandchildren aged 8, 6 and 2!!!!!!!! Perfect outing for a rainy day in the school holidays. The staff were so friendly and kind starting off with the Chinese-looking receptionist to the guide who occupied my 2 year old arranging plastic balls in... More

I enjoyed viewing the Art Awards and the information about old Hamilton - the architecture is impressive and the new fountain outside is also an asset
