called in to see the cathedral but this church is worth a look classic timber and a totally different architecture to the cathedral. Our visit was made worthwhile by two lovely ladies who explained a number of things about the church and its history. Do not miss this church if you are visiting the Cathedral

It's a little surprising to see so few reviews of this lovely old building on Tripadvisor. Particularly in tandem with the Holy Trinity Cathedral next door, St Mary's is well worth a visit. It has superb colonial joinery throughout with massive amounts of hardwood timber everywhere you look. There are also a number of items of interest to New Zealanders... More

For those who value the experience of attending a church with tradition and beauty as well as a fine sermon, this is it.

A wooden cathedral very well preserved that it's worth to visit. Very friendly staff will give you the story of the cathedral in your own mother language.

St Mary's is a large and very beautiful wooden church in the gothic revival style. It originally sat on the other side of Parnell Road but was moved to sit alongside the new Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in the early 1980s. This really was a masterful decision and in a short time will be linked to the Cathedral complex... More

Strolling through Parnell we came here and found the choir rehearsing. Always adds a touch of magic to a church that does. The church looks wonderful and is worth a visit.

A lovely little church, well cared for and a holy feel to it. Not far from the Holy Trinity, it's worth a visit and look for the architecture's peculiar signature !

This is the original Auckland Cathedral, now sited alongside a much larger brick replacement which is as unattractive as St. Mary's is charming. The old church is completely made of native timbers, glowing kauri throughout, and is utterly beautiful. The windows are generally good, well-coloured, and the organ is a fine instrument when well played. The church has an interesting... More

Moved from across the road to it's present site so that it could be used in conjunction with Holy Trinity, it is part of not only Auckland's earliest history, but a focal point for the Anglican Church ~ yesterday, today and into the future.
