The museum is very interesting, but the best part is how to get there and the views over the hill. You should walk!!

I'm not really a museum guy, they don't appeal to me that much, but I wanted to get a flavor for the Maori and pcific islands cultures so I went to the museum. I had read it was free/by donation, but unfortunately that ONLY applies...More

I sauntered around this building for a couple of hours under duress. The lighting in some of the exhibits was dark (obviously for preservation purposes), the butterfly exhibit was more for kids than adults, there was a group of noisy out of control school kids...More

So much to learn and take in! The kids area is especially fun for the kids to enjoy themselves and get creative. It also gives the parents a chance to sit down and chill for a bit. I love how there is a kids eating...More

Great museum - don't expect to get it done all in one day. Great Maori culture area - if you time it right you might see a haka and/or singing. Also great WWII

This excellent museum combines a war memorial with excellent natural history and cultural exhibits. International visitors are charged $25, but it is worth it to see the excellent exhibits. I enjoyed special exhibits on women's rights and on butterflies.

Although the museum is not big in international standard, the Auckland Museum offers the visitors a good understanding of the formation of the New Zealand islands (from zero), to the Maori’s culture. They even have a Maori traditional performance. The scale is rather small though,...More

My daughter and I visit using Explorer bus that hop on/off at the museum. My daughter enjoyed all the exhibitions. We had lunch at the cafe which was ok. I didn’t know international visitors need to pay entry but New Zealand citizens or Aucklanders were...More

Hi there Robert, if it's a large group of people, we suggest booking in advance, but for small parties it should be fine to just show up on the day! If you have any other questions, feel free to fire them through!
