Went here with elderly parents. What was great was being able to use a (pre-booked) mobility scooter for free for one of my parents. The zoo is really lovely, I am local to NZ but hadn't been there for 20 years. The old cages and bars are gone and the exhibits are visible via very open viewing areas. The staff... More

I have been to a few zoos around the world and I honestly rate Auckland Zoo as one of the better ones out there. Their exhibits are constantly being upgraded and seem to provide a good environment for the animals. The staff seem to know their stuff and we have never met one who isn't friendly and helpful. The zoo... More

Always love going to Auckland Zoo with the family - usually take our own food to picnic on & enjoy the day with the animals, making it a relatively cheap day out.

Many of the animals were active which was great to see. The shows are informative and interesting. I like that the animals aren't hidden behind glass, many of the enclosures are open and mimic real life. There was only one animal (ape) they we couldn't see, which wasn't a big deal. Loved our visit, wish I could go again !!

I'm a big fan of seeing animals from all over the world. Although I'm no fan of small cages for animals, most zoo's these days are working hard to create large open enclosures for their animals and Auckland Zoo is no exception. Great outdoor spaces and great enclosures featuring several different species in one place. Well worth a visit.

Auckland zoo is nicely set out. Lovely large enclosures that allow good viewing of the animals. Informative talks. Good range of animals including native NZ fauna and flora. Easy to get to from the CBD by car. Plenty of paling if you get there early. We came on a weekend and it wasn't too busy.

A very nice zoo! Well rounded, some interesting animal and a do-able size for a day trip. Recommend the bengal tigers, kiwis, monkeys, and tasmanian devils.

Was impressed by the spacious animal enclosures and the number of species in the zoo. Although I did see Kiwi in their indoor enclosure, I wished I had visited the zoo when it was cooler (early morning or evening) when more animals are active and visible. The large cats were sleeping in the shade and out of sight during the... More

Having lived in Africa I was not sure what to expect and was pleasantly surprised at the variety of animals and the excellent facilities. The zoo is clean, has good signage, maps are handed out with your entry ticket, there are a number of places to buy refreshments and the paths are wheelchair friendly. We went there to take photographs... More
