Combine your ferry trip to Rangitoto Island with a guided tour of the island on our 4WD road-train.Find out more about this unique volcano from our knowledgeable guides who provide fascinating commentary on the island's fiery past. You'll journey through rugged lava crops and native bush, while our guide talks to you about the history and geology of the island. The tour can only reach the base of the summit where it's a short walk to the summit along a wooden boardwalk with steps to the very top. After taking in the panoramic views, you rejoin the tour vehicle for the return trip to the wharf.

Instead of walking the island on my own, I decided on doing the tour due to mobility issues and with 2 children in tow, plus it was not expensive. Upon arrival on the island, the tram was located just a short walk away from the jetty, it is well-signaged, you can't miss it. My recommendation is NOT to take the... More

Unless you're unable to walk to the summit on foot (1 hour, moderate difficulty), then I wouldn't recommend getting the train. After getting off the ferry (which they had boarded all of the tour ticket holders on to first) we walked quickly to the tour pick up point as the brochure said it leaves 5 minutes after the boat arrives.... We decided on a visit to Rangitoto Island. It was just too easy, buying the tickets, being directed to the boarding location, onto the Ferryboat and off to Rangitoto. Great on board service. On arrival, walked up to roadtrain for a tour. It was fantastic. Auckland looks so different when sitting on the summit. I highly recommend that other Aucklanders... More

A great way to hear all about this volcanic island especially with 2 children in tow. Our guide/driver, Bob, made the trip very interesting with enough information to keep us focussed. A fascinating experience about the evolution of Rangitoto. Thank you Bob for making this experience definitely one to remember. Beverley and Simon

I highly recommend booking a tour with Fullers, especially if you are short on time or not a fan of being too active. Rangitoto is a small island but the terrain is not always easy to walk on and unless you are a regular hiker you may find it difficult to walk the whole island. You'd also miss out on... More

We did the Fullers Rangitoto Volcanic Tour and really enjoyed it. We got the 12:15 ferry out there. If we had more time then we could have walked up and around the volcano without the tour. You go up in a truck being pulled by a tractor, but you have time to get out and walk up to the creator,... More

If don't have much time to spend on the island then book the tour, but if you like walking and have a few more hours than you should put your hiking shoes on and explore the island on your own!

Take the Fullers ferry from Auckland harbour or Devonport. Book the tractor and trailer driven ride at the same time. Well worth the money if it's your first time to the island. The guides are knowledgable on the history, flora and fauna of the island and whilst the tour is 2 hours long you're left wanting to see more -... More

A nice, low-key tour of a little with great views of Auckland and interesting geography. Very enjoyable, nice tour guide (tractor driver).

Kids loved the boat ride (free muffins/coffee as well) and stop off at the island. Rangitoto stop was a bit short on time, unfortunately.
