Devonport is a very historically interesting and beautiful little town a short ferry ride from Auckland. I caught a tour bus for an hours tour which went to the top of Mt Victoria. This tour well worth the money .

You can drive or take the ferry, little kids must be supervised as very easily can full in the water but more safe in the playground

25 minutes by ferry from Auckland Harbour, it isa quaint twon with all sorts of pleasnt shops to visit. also the Navy museum and great walkns around teh bay and beaches. Go to the top of the hill too for veiws down the bays.

A great place to visit while in staying in Auckland. Has a nice waterfront and town centre. Scenic views across Auckland and the Waitemata Harbour from the top of Mt Victoria.
