About one hour trip to the east side of Auckland, this beach offers relax place for whole family, do camping, or just walking and sit under the tree shades, with main bonus is cockle pick, yes the limit is 50 cockles per person per day, enough for the dinner. Check the tide chart before visiting to avoid the high tide... More

Kawakawa has a little beach side community in which hasn't seen the hustle most little villagers have. It has a park and toilets across from the shop. A good place to stop If you have children or just when using the coast as a by pass .The next shop is in Kaiaua

Kawakawa Bay is not far away from where I live i.e. around 45 minutes drive from the busy life of Auckland. Its a lovely drive to the bay and once you reach there it takes you to an enchanted world of peace and tranquility. The area offer lots e.g. lovely walk by the beach, good swim in a sunny warm... We didn't expect to find a bay full of shells. It was absolutely stunning on the day we went. So peaceful.

A wide bay with a small cove and beautiful sands. It looked popular with fishermen on the jetty and a few small boats going in and out to the little islands or water skiing out in the bay. Wonderful.

kawakawa was not a planned trip..we found it while searching other beaches. It was a public beach with a private feeling...lonely, expansive and beautiful. A bit of a walk to Hit the beach but well worth it.

It's about an hour drive from Auckland downtown to Kawakawa Bay. Make sure you stop on the way at Clevedon Coast Oysters where you can buy super jumbo oyster if you are lucky.

As per the subject heading, this is a great place for a family picnic and much less crowded than the main spots ... probably not great on a windy or wet day. If you have forgotten something or run out of drinks, there is a dairy as well as a small shop attached to the service station to supplement your... More
