A guided tour of this paradigm of conservation excellence, boat transfers included. Absolutely magnificent. We saw 5 species of birds, now extinct everywhere else, which we had never seen before. So uplifting and exciting. Boat transfer system worked really well and the guide (Robert) could not have been better. Wonderful value for money. This is a critically endangered parrot, the... More

We visited Kapiti Island with Kapiti Marine Charter, landing at Rangitira Point. It's pretty much an all day visit, starting at about 8.15am and ending around 3.00pm, leaving from Paraparaumu beach. The boat trip over to the island is an experience in itself, as the boat is launched from the beach by a tractor. When you get to the island... More

Kapiti Island is a beautiful island bird sanctuary just a short boat ride from Paraparaumu on the mainland. There are trips for one day or overnight stays. Bring your camera, walking shoes and warm jacket. There are tracks and coastline to walk to see birds and marine life among the indigenous vegetation.

We booked a 2 day one night stay on island with kapiti island nature tours our first booking was cancelled due to rough seas so we rebooked it a few days later. We had a nature walk booked on South which helped us identify local birds and trees there is plenty of walking on South to fill your day. We... More

We went to kapiti Island recently with Kapiti Island Nature Tours and stayed overnight at the Lodge on the North end of the island. It was an experience of a lifetime for my bird watching husband! We enjoyed an excellent guided tour round part of the South end of the island, which helped us start to identify some of the... More

If bird-watching is one of your interests you will love Kapiti Island and appreciate all the work that has gone into making it predator-free. There are a few companies approved by the Dept. of Conservation for taking tours to the Island. We went for a day trip to Rangatira Point with Ngati Toa Kapiti Tours. Costs were $75 for the... More

I had the pleasure of taking my family to Kapiti Island between Christmas and New Year. It was a great experience. Jenny and her team at the Kapiti Explorer did a great job and the skipper of the boat made us feel really safe. My daughter is five and doesn’t swim. The Island itself was awesome and we managed to... More

I brought my 2 boys, age 11 and 2.5 years old, to this island sanctuary for birds and stayed overnight for the guided kiwi tour. It was organised by the Kapiti Island Nature Tours which included ferry transfers, guided tours and overnight stay and meals. On the 1st day, we hiked to the summit, which is 521m and it would...
