The Art Gallery of Westen Australia has both mainstream older paintings and modern art, including an excellent collection of indigenous art. There is a particularly good museum shop. It is part of the Cultural Centre, which is within easy walking distance of most of central Perth, and is also served by Perth's free CAT buses.

I'm not an art fan but swung by since it's free...some interesting work by local artists and there was even a section of Aboriginal art...worth a stop if in central Perth

This gallery has a really good collection of more modern art which gives you a good reflection of what has been produced by Australian artists. There was also an aboriginal art competition on the second floor which was really very interesting.

We decided to be a bit different and go and view the art gallery. A really pleasant hour was spent there and luckily we were there to view the Indian exhibition with all the beautiful silks and clothing etc. Free entrance and pleasant staff. Not a real must but a lovely way to spend time out peacefully and enjoyably

We aren't huge art gallery fans but it was hot out and we thought we'd step inside take a look around. It's actually quite interestingly! We really enjoyed it and have been in again since!

We spent around 45 minutes looking around as our child was a bit over it and bored witless. Very hard to enjoy at a not so casual pace but there were some really interesting pieces there.

I can't believe I hadn't visited the art gallery before! It was free to enter and I was amazed at the diversity and amount of exhibitions. They have a large section devoted to indigenous art and the rest of the exhibitions are sorted by time period. After visiting the modern part of the museum you can also go down into... More

Was an unexpected visit as I walked by the gallery and thought I would pop in, and glad I did. They have some great Australian Art from the last century, including Sidney Nolan and Norman Lindsay. They also have some temporary exhibitions space, which at the time had the West Australian Indigenous Art Awards 2015 which had some great artists.... More
