About
The Australian Open is a Grand Slam like no other. Over a two-week schedule the city comes alive, with international players gracing Melbourne’s world-class arenas for some truly spectacular tennis. With the soaring heat that Melbourne is known for in January, the event is known to push the physical abilities of these athletes to their limits. While the players slog it out, spectators can view the matches from the stands or choose from a variety of seating options (including private spaces). The Australian Open is a unique opportunity to experience an elite sporting event with a distinct Australian flavour, with fans dressed in their country's national colours, sporting warpaint on their faces and enthusiastically showing their support.

The ambience at the Australian Open is world class. Tennis courts with Melbourne City as the backdrop are breathtaking. The organisation is professional managing queues (yes it’s busy) and food service is up to speed. The public areas are large and there are sunscreen, hydration and cool water spray stations available. Everyone’s ready for a good day out and of course the tennis is spectacular

So much to see and do. A festival which caters for the whole family and then there is the tennis as well. On one day we went we watched AFL team Collingwood training, then lunch and the afternoon at the tennis watching outside court matches live and centre court matches on the big screens. We then watched Melbourne Storm rugby team train before going to a Melbourne Victory soccer match in the evening. A huge day at the sporting precinct. We will be back to see a lot more.

Absolutely do not recommend. We queued for 1.5 hours for the carts. They had no system they do not have enough safety equipment. The staff have no system. We had to ask 6 different officials where hit shots was and each sent us a different way. We waited for 30 minutes for ice cream and about 45 min for burgers

Due to the Corona virus and the necessity for quarantine, the Australian Open has been put back until 8 to 21 February. The officials have stressed the importance of abiding by the regulations. Players must quarantine for two weeks, and can train five hours a day. Officials take the Australian Open's status as the Grand Slam of the Asia Pacific very seriously. The withdrawal of one of the world's top players, Roger Federer due to niggles with his knee and family problems was regretted. Any tournament, with the world's top athletes participating, is better than none.

This is my 15th year that I've been to the Australian Open Tennis. It is a fantastic week to catch up with friends from around Australia. We meet in Melbourne with the primary aim to go to the tennis which again this year was excellent. Even seats up the back are good - and more affordable. Food at the Open is expensive - so take your own. But it is a wonderful event and meeting in Melbourne gives us all an opportunity to catch up, shop, dine, visits galleries and museums and surrounding towns. This year we went to Lorne for lunch. I know a little long but it was a great day.

This event is the best event in Australia. So well organised. its very busy but Melbourne puts on a great show. Recommend getting Rod Laver arena tickets and that will also give you assess to all the outside courts.

We had planned our visit to Melbourne to attend the AO well in advance. We booked accommodation, travel and Harry Potter tickets to all align and then discovered that the tournament had been moved out a week due to the ATP cup. This was not mentioned on the website while we were planning. So we ended up having to extend our stay and got to attend days 1 and 2.
The atmosphere was fantastic. I had preferred the CC bar being up on the hill with the big screen rather than this years format.
There was more food options. Crowds were bigger, possibly people like us that had been caught out with dates.
One comment about the merchandise. The young girls with me wanted a AO sweatshirt. They are a ladies size 6 and 10 and had to buy a L and XXL! No chance for me being a size 14! Why? You are limiting your customers and I assure you that little size 10’s don’t appreciate having to buy an XXL!
I was hoping an extra match would be put on RLA on Monday as there was 3+ hours before night session and outside courts were washed out?
Great tennis and it’s a fun day out. We will keep coming back.

While I understand there was many difficulties getting this tournament up and running, there was no consistency in which the way the staff in high vis jacket treated to the spectators. Some people blatantly sat through the game with no mask and nothing was said yet others were picked on my rude staff.
Been in previous years, and disappointed and food and drink outrageously expensive.

The Australian Open now uses dynamic pricing. Our tickets cost $200 more for each ticket when we bought the tickets weeks ago. On the event day the tickets are $200 less. Just a joke and feel so ripped off!

Tournament scheduling was appalling. No conlsideration for either players or fans. The late starts for some matches were completely unacceptable. The main courts may be better of course but watching tennis on the big screens in the grounds is a miserable experience. Huge advertising screens distract from the matches. This is abour commercial gain not tennis. Poor commentary does not help. Not worth the ground ticket price. Recommend fans watch at home and save their money unless they can afford the seat prices on the show courts - and the time when the matches run in the early hours because of the absurd scheduling.

Question - I'm thinking of going to see the 2025 Australian Open tennis. Can you tell me how to purchase the ground pass and various tickets and how much they cost?
Answer:
The dates for 2025 are 12-26 January. If you go to the official website (unfortunately Tripadvisor does not allow a link to be included here but just google ausopen ticket info ), it will explain the various types of tickets you can get. I just checked and the information has not yet been updated from 2024 but it will still be useful to let you know some of the ticket-types.
The cheapest ticket is the 'Ground Pass' which gives you general access to the grounds, and some arenas (Kia & John Cain Arena) but does not give access to the main areas (Margaret Court & Rod Laver Arenas). In 2024 a one day ground pass was $29AUD / and $139 for a week.
However if you are travelling from overseas, I imagine that you will want to book the main arenas and perhaps the finals.
For tickets to the main arenas, you choose your days and seating and the price varies accordingly.
Go to the official site (again, I can't include a link here so just google ausopen 2025 dates announced ) for more information.
Tickets for AO2025 are scheduled to go on sale in October.

You can buy tickets onlne or at the venue. However if you want to be on the sho courts you will need to purchase tickets on line in advance. Australian Open has dynamic pricing. There are usually ground passes available on the day.

Can I purchase a day pass but later leave the grounds and re enter at a later time.
Written 19 January 2023
With a Rod Laver Arena 7pm ticket, what time can I enter the grounds? There is conflicting evidence online, with some people saying 5pm and some saying they walked around the grounds and outside all day before their 7pm ticket. Thanks!

I’m also interested to find this out. I have a ticket for women’s semi-final and not sure if I can get into the grounds early in the day or not. There is conflicting info online..

We have tickets to the men’s semi final which doesn’t start til 7 30pm. Does this let us in during the day to enjoy all the attractions ?

Hi. Hoping someone can answer me tonight before we head out to Aus Open tomorrow...
Can we bring a camelbak to the event?
Is this type of backpack not allowed?
It can still fit under the seat....
Hoping someone can get back to me :-)
Thanks in advance!

Is walking to and from a night session from Flinders Street safe and or wise? I see some recommendations to take the tram from Flinders Street Station. Thank you

Where can I purchase a ground pass for the night session at the AO? I can only find an all day pass online but we can’t attend until after work. Can you purchase these at the event?
Written 19 November 2022
If you purchase tickets for the Rod Laver or Margaret Court Arenas it covers entry and the rest of the facilities (excluding the other Arena ie Rod Laver/ Margaret Court).
Written 19 November 2022
Hi guys,
Hoping to watch Men’s semi finals in the evening at Rod Laver Arena.
If the match starts at 7:30pm, will you be allowed entry to get to your allocated seats if your late?
I will arrive in Melbourne at 7pm so a bit tight with timeframe and I don’t want to be refused entry because the match has already started.
Thanks in advance
Written 26 January 2022
Yes you can. However, you will be asked to wait at the entry point where an attendant regulates movement, until a game ends and the players switch sides. This is to prevent your movement from distracting the players when the game is on. The attendant will let you know when you are allowed to walk to your seat.
