Overview
More
The Owl and Cat Theatre is located across the road from Richmond train station, up the top of Swan Street. A famous fringe and comedy festival hub with 7 years of presenting independent art in Melbourne, the Owl and Cat Theatre is a quirky and unique element of Melbourne's theatre culture. The theatre has a wonderful versatility. Everything from the seats to the stage is moveable which enables theatre makers to really take control of the space and make it work for their individual performance. It brings with it a warm and inspirational atmosphere; it is hard to walk through the doors without falling in love with the place. Before and after shows audiences are invited to hang around and get a drink in the backstage bar, often playing host to musicians, DJs and the like, making the whole experience a celebration. "It’s a magical feeling entering someone’s space where every detail has been pored over, driven by love and devotion." - Carla Sammut "One of the best stages in Melbourne" - Mikelangelo (Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen) "A muchly fantastic and heaps important arts venue" - Damian Callinan "Calm, charismatic ... and quietly splendid space." - Sally Wilmot (Midsumma Festival)

I am really enjoying the productions that are being put on at the Owl and the Cat in recent times. The ones I have been too, have been entertaining and thought provoking - but more than that: they are clever, well written, well directed, and...More

Directed by the Owl & Cat's resident director, Gabrielle Savrone, "A very modern marriage" is an exemplar of Owl&Cat's innovative indi theatre credibility. It was funny (wry + laugh out loud), fast paced, tender, insightful, and surprising. This intimate theatre venue keeps turning on great...More

Thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Owl and Cat on Friday night. Great play and great experience. Loved the bar, the theatre and the wonderfully welcoming team. Will definitely be back.
