Guess you would call it "tatty chic"

Crowded, expensive drinks and poor service. Not an experience worth repeating. Seating was uncomfortable and servers all had "attitude"

Grabbed a quick meal here before a show at the Princess Theatre. Kids loved the spaghetti and meatballs, adults enjoyed a tuna nicoise and a corned beef ploughman's plate. Serving sizes were just right for a light lunch. Lovely wine by the glass, with some interesting choices at reasonable prices.

The service in this place is terrible! Years ago this was one of my favourite places to go for after dinner drinks. But a recent experience here with rude, arrogant staff will ensure I never return. I recently visited on business and the waitress treated us so badly that we made a formal complaint to management. What used to make... More

Does it get any better? The fancy end of town, up a stairway with no signage, a beautiful bit of space, and great view of Melbourne 1800s architecture. Well it does! A wine list that will have you reading all night and good food to complement the wine. A great place to settle in for a post show or dinner... More

We had just seen a show it was 11:30pm and were told about it by our hotel concierge we missed it to begin with and walked straight past the door, when we found it we opened the big wooden door standing unnoticeably in the street we were amazed, this place seemed the best kept secret! We order some supper and... More

Blink and you'll walk straight past the single door entrance to this bar. A tastefully styled joint with plenty of history to it. Arriving very late on a Thursday night we were surprised to see it still so full of patrons. Thankfully got a seat on the rooftop section and enjoyed shadowed views of Parliament House. Recommend to try at... More

Next door to the Princess Theatre, this a great place for a post theatre drink/snack. A tapas type menu offers a great selection of share type options and a sensational selection of cheeses. The wine list is a must see with many options by the glass at reasonable prices by Melbourne standards..and bottles up to $10000! Service was exceptional. Just... More

I have been to the Supper Club a number of times. I love the old style elegance of the place. We arrived late on a Thursday evening & immersed ourselves (4) into the big lounges. They offer a great menus & the wine list is superb. The staff know what they are doing & are happy to give advice on... More

This place is great for the wine without a doubt but food not so much. A bit pretentious bar food, good bar food and more variety would of been better to complement the wines. Deffinatly worth a visit, secret bar hidden in the busy city cool surroundings with a view.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
