We went here as often as we can. Those photos taken when we did family outing. The best part is it is so close to home, the beach general are clean but watch out for broken bottle glasses. It is better to walk with beach shoes on or try to avoid stepping on it. The water is clear, but always... More

Really pleasant calm beach for kids. Fantastic boardwalk starts here and runs all the way to Tarra river mouth and port entry. Port Authority have created a really pleasant walking / cycling trail around their perimeter, with plantings, seating, fishing spots, outdoor gym, play area ( opening December 2016) and drinking fountain. Beach has parking, change room, showers and BBQ... More

The Poss (my daughter) rang this morning (23/02) and said the max temp. was forecast at 39D in Melbourne (the actual reached was 42D) and asked if I had done the write up for Melbourne beaches. I said that we were having a cool break over here in Perth and that it had rained heavily. I was still beaching, and... More

30 years ago Sandridge beach, as well as Port Melbourne beach, were unattractive and rundown with rusting and rotting infrastructure. Then the progressive Kennett/Stockdale government approved the building of Beacon Cove with 500 apartment and 500 houses. A total upgrade of Station Pier and the beach then occurred including paths and rock groins out into the sea to protect the... More

Sandridge Beach is surrounded by piers and port facilities. However, recent redevelopment of the surrounding area, including new beach amenities and landscaping, have produced a reasonably attractive beach. The beach is very accessible, with good free parking. A relatively shallow and safe beach. However, seaweed accumulation on the beach and shipping pollution can be a problem when present.

We have found this little gem accidentally - we was looking for free parking and this was the place, where parking is totally free. We have spent then two mornings here starting our trip on foot to the heart of Melbourne. Also we did one walk by the beach on night - really liked the experience. Very nice place -... More

The western end of this beach has been a culturally and historically significant place to Melbourne's gay community for generations. Since long before homosexuality was even legal it was (and continues to be) one of the few out of the way safe places for gay men to socialise, meet, network and sun-bake naked. Very important and special place to the... More

Most people think of the eastern bay beaches when they think of beached in Melbourne, but for those that have lived both sides of the bay, you will know that this is a hidden little gem. Not hidden from all, as it can get very crowded on the beach very quickly in the summer days, giving it the feel of... More

A great quiet weekend patroled beach close to the city , a nice walk along the beach boardwalk . Large break water to prevent large waves makes for a good swimming beach
