Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

This is a very short pedestrian only street that links the Flinders Street Station to the shopping area. There are many restaurants on this street and some street art is also visible. Great place to grab a coffee and people watch.

We liked the vibe here and it’s great for people watching, but watch out for some of the restaurants. We ate here twice and both were pretty poor. Do your research before you sit down to eat anywhere. And if anyone is trying to get you to eat at their restaurant you can be pretty sure perhaps their reputation isn’t great.

Unfortunately can not remember the name of the cafe Asian Spanish
Can’t believe I found a bad cafe in the food capital of Australia
$81.00 for breakfast we ordered seperate items not the full breakfast sausage eggs baked beans and toast.
Toast was a slice of stale bread baked beans were hot and spicy chorizo was just warmed up not cooked .
He charged me for full breakfast plus sausage did not have full breakfast.
I had eggs Benny asked for sauce on the side so they smothered it with sauce and then also put it on the side.
Tried to explain when I paid for it was told you should have complained that’s what I’m doing no.
Not after you ate it
Me I didn’t eat it because it was terrible.
Lesson learnt I was not sure the waitress understood my order some times you just have to put it down to experience soooooo dissapointing next time I’ll make a better choice

Degraves Street is one of Melbourne's best-known streets for coffee. On Sunday there was a big crowd enjoying afternoon tea, who were chatting away at full tilt. Degraves Street runs off Flinders Lane. If you want something to eat while you chat, Degraves Street hosts a number of restaurans and cafes. Today was overcast and a little cool, but it didn't prevent travellers from having a good time. If worst comes to worst, there are always canopies.

Degraves Street is famous for food and coffee. Now that the barricades, which were erected as part of Victoria's "Big Build" construction project have been removed, accessing Degraves St is much easier. Degraves St is accessed through Flinders St and Flinders Lane. You can choose from a wide range of eateries and cafes. Soon it will be summer, and Degraves St will be busy, as usual. This famous lane in the middle of the busy City is much loved by Melburnians, especially when they can sit outside in the sunshine and drink their coffee.

This area was filled with small shops and restaurants that was only about a half mile from our hotel. It was very convenient to walk there to grab a quick bite or a cup of coffee. The vendors on DeGraves Street were very reasonably priced. We generally like to make an effort to support small businesses wherever we go.

Toured the street with my wife, as part of a side street tour from my guide book. This street is part of a U-shaped walk depicting modern street art on the walls of the buildings and backs of restaurants. The huge murals are very impressive, although it is a shame that some vandals have defaced the art with simple "tags".

What a great spot to wander along, plenty of places to eat at, I was there around lunchtime and it was fairly buzzing with customers queued up at some restaurants.
I look forward to my next stay in Melbourne to eat at some of these places.
Time constraints did not allow this time .

Degraves Street is the original Melbourne "food street." Degraves Street is really a lane. The lane is filled with tables and chairs, sheltered by umbrellas. You can drink a coffee, dine on some of Melbourne's famous international cuisine, or sample some of the tempting gelato. You will rub shoulders with travelers, students and office workers who have ducked out for a reviving coffee. Degrave' Street is always bustling with visitors, it has a Mediterranean vibe.

Busy alleyway in the CBD filled with cafes bars and restaurants. Easily accessible from Flinders Street station. Good variety of eateries with pleasant outdoor eating options. Gets pretty crowded though.

The street itself is open all hours, however the businesses within it vary. Depending on the day of the week, some open as early as 7 am for breakfast and close at 21:30 or 23:00.
