As rivers go, its not bad. A vista to see the skyline, lined with eateries in parts, frequented by rowers, walkers and occasional boats. The water is, well, sorta muddy looking. Its nice to watch the rowers whether near Southbank or even more towards Docklands. You don't see that in other Cities. Aside from that its no more exciting than... More

You can walk along either bank for a couple of kilometres on excellent boardwalks and paved paths. In spite of the number of pedestrians it is still a most pleasant walk with excellent views of the river and buildings on both sides. Very peaceful.

Amazing to walk along this river and see how it cuts along the city of Melbourne. The city has done a wonderful job at having so many interesting things along side this river. It/s an easy must see place and thing to do.

Several bridges, both for vehicles and pedestrians, span the Yarra and offer excellent vantage points of the city skyline. My first visit to Melbourne... More

So my friend recommended that I come to Yarra River and just walk a little around it because by doing that, one can get a feel of Melbourne because the river runs through so much of it. Of course the alternative thing to do is take a cruise and explore Melbourne another way.
