You can take a "tour" (we heard some of them are grumpy) or do as we did and just take the ferry from the central city out to Williamstown and return. It was nice to see the city from another perspective and pretty on a sunny day.

It is a great asset for Melbourne although it has had its share of criticism. There are interesting shops and restaurants and above all some beautiful parks along its banks. Take a stroll along South Bank or the Alexandra Gardens for some great scenery and peaceful places.

Started by Federation Square walked along the Yarra River towards The Rod Laver Arena as I am a big tennis fan! Very pleasant as it was mostly in shade and a hot day when we were there. Some interesting art works too by the river. Crossed over Swan St Bridge then came back along the other side. Walked past the... More

great place to have a stroll in summer, easy access to southbank and the city. BBQ's are spread a long the banks of both sides so a perfect place for a picnic.

Such a great spot to see the water and observe people. I loved the park more than the river itself but it's nice to be so close to the city and the water.

We took a boat tour for about an hour which was very informative and relaxing. Thereafter we had a meal in one of the restaurants on the Southbank. The Southbank is well set out with lots of restaurants and beautiful buildings and bridges. It is a must if you do go to Melbourne.

We joined the local tour and we were taken to 4 different places for wine tasting. Not bad and one came with lunch.
