A great street to wander up and down in central Melbourne. Plenty of places to eat and drink when you have either window-shopped in all the ludicrously expensive designer shops, or worse still, allowed your wife inside!!

When I grew up my mother would always define which end of Collins Street a shop was located by saying either the top end or the Paris end, which mean near Exhibition Street. Collins Street is a major street in the centre of Melbourne and is known for its grand Victorian architecture, prestigious boutiques and high-end retailers. Collins Street has... More

On a sunny day, Collins Street in Melbourne is up there with the great thoroughfares of the world. Exploring this street turns up something wonderful for everyone. For the time poor visitor, the trams, free in the CBD, traverse the entire length of the street, with stopping points all along the way. For the wanderers, a walk from east to... More

Great street for shopping in City of Melbourne. Most of world famous shops with a great choice of last models. Nice cafes for a lunch of fast coffee break. Plenty of historical buildings.

We had the good fortune to spend 5 nights at the top end of Collins so if you are into good Jewelry, clothes food and accommodation you have arrived. I loved the choice of good restaurants ,

We wanted to see some older architecture and this is the street to visit. Make sure you dive into some of the buildings as well as the interiors are just as amazing. Try the ANZ Bank building and the building opposite with art deco lamps outside and the Block Arcade is a must. Not interested in shopping but it also... More

Collins Street is must see street when visiting Melbourne with the intermingling of modern high rise and architecture to the astounding sights provided by the more historic buildings that signify the magic of early days Melbourne. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, shops and cafes to enjoy along the way providing an overall brilliant snapshot of Melbourne.

Collins Street, particularly the top end towards Spring Street, is a really beautiful street with its wonderful trees. Reminded me of a Parisian Street. Beautiful shops and restaurants in great supply. Just a nice street to walk along and admire the lovely old buildings, if shopping is not for you!

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
