The landmark Regent Theatre holds a key part in our city’s history since opening as a grand picture palace in 1929. Having survived a fire, a flood, 20 years in darkness and many threats of demolition, the venue reopened in August 1996, meticulously refurbished and returned to its breathtaking former glory.Today it stands more lavish and grand than ever and continues to host some of the world’s most renowned theatre productions.

My husband & I saw Jimmy Barnes here last Saturday night and we absolutely love this beautiful old theatre. The best thing about it, is the leg room between the chairs. You are not squashed in visiting here. Will certainly be back :)

This is an amazing historic building and great venue for concerts and stage lovers. I've been here a few times and it is always stinking hot up top. Maybe to do with the lighting, roof etc. Also I overheard many complaints from people that pre-booked drinks at interval and their line was 3 times the length of the non-pre booked... More

What a marvellous venue for this work function. Shabby chic glamour.... what more can one ask in keeping worth the James Bond theme. The event management company appeared to have all well in hand. We did not want to leave!!!

What a fun show, we were 6 rows back in the stalls,(and payed a lot for this privilege) unfortunately just where the theatre seats are in a dip - and had a tall person in front.... but with leaning to the side, we managed to still enjoy the show - couldnt see the middle of the stage when i relaxed... Saw an absolutely brilliant, ten out of ten musical recently. If you haven't seen the musical, "We Will Rock You, do yourself a huge favour and go. Not sure when it is closing but I guarantee you will come away feeling great- AND you don't have to be a lover of Queen music to enjoy this experience, but if you... More

Fortunate to be in Melb for a birthday celebration and decided to buy tickets on line to see "We will rock you" (Queen musical) As our accomodation was very close we walked to theatre in Collins St (close to Federation Square - next block) and it does look beautiful lit up at night. Has had a checkered history (fire, floods... More

We went here to see 'We Will Rock You '. The show was incredible. The theatre itself was majestic. The intricate details and the gold trimmings on the roof inside is incredible. All the little symbols its amazing. The Ushers that night were very friendly, shining a light if anyone needed to go outside. You really have to go in... More

What a magnificent theatre. I lived in London for 7 years and the interior of this theatre is way up there. 3 of us from NZ saw We Will Rock You. We were 5 rows from the front and plenty of room between the seats. Music just boomed through the seats and our bodies, but we loved it. I had... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
