The gardens are beautiful and full of historic significance. Free walking tours of Melbourne start at the State Library and are the best way to explore the gardens and city with a knowledgable guide by your side. Wear comfortable shoes!

The gardens are a stone's throw from the centre of Melbourne and well worth a visit. I always find time to visit whenever I'm in Melbourne and never get tired of walking around the gardens. They are immaculately maintained and you can take as much or as little time as you like to enjoy the gardens. I took my 19... More

Having visited Melbourne ten times over the past 27 years, its botanic gardens are always my no.1 place to return to. If you're not a tree or plant lover then enjoy the gardens for their beauty, tranquility and central location in the city; but if you are a tree lover you are in paradise. I have yet to find a... The Royal Botanic Gardens are a must to visit when you are in Melbourne. They are beautifully tended and have many splendid old trees and shrubs. Well kept paths spread throughout the gardens with areas of shade where you can escape the heat on a hot day

Walked to and from our hotel (Crown Plaza Towers) to this beautiful oasis tucked away on a hilltop in Melbourne. Free admission and lots of ground to cover. Nice break from the hustle and bustle of the city

Free to visit. Grab a map from visitors centre and just walk. Signs everywhere and make for the lake and walk round and the Fernerie is an absolute must. Take a book, a drink and just find a bench and sit. A wonderfully peaceful spot in this buzzing city.!!
