Well worth it but come prepared

Spur of the moment trip and was worth it. Only issue was that we weren't prepared at all. Fantastic location in the botanical gardens and all the staff were lovely. Girlfriend was... read more

On our first visit it was a very last minute decision, we booked tickets, left our place immediately and went straight to the gardens to watch 'Lion'. We arrived about 20 minutes before the gates opened and there was a HUGE queue. Apparently it had sold out meaning there were over 2000 people to fit in! We got there and... More

Spur of the moment trip and was worth it. Only issue was that we weren't prepared at all. Fantastic location in the botanical gardens and all the staff were lovely. Girlfriend was getting cold and asked a member of staff called Dario if there was a blanket she could rent. There were none to rent but he went off and... More

From the 100's of fruit bats to the star lit sky, this was a memorable experience. We also got to see a film that isn't due out in the UK for another 3 weeks. Well organised and managed. We booked the gold tickets as this includes bean bags and waiter service for food and drink. It was about $6 each... More

We were excited to get tickets for La La Land at moonlight cinema Melbourne. Gates opened 7pm with screening around 8:30. We arrived at 7:30 to find it was already quite crowded and ended up with seating about 3/4 of the way back from the screen. Food trucks behind the seating area were supposed to close prior to the beginning... More

We bought the tickets the night before and when we turned up at around 7pm, the line was long (it was much shorter the night before, but that might have been the movies - we watched Passengers, they screened Hacksaw Ridge the night before). We paid 19pp, but they had tickets close to the screen for about twice that which... More

We went for the Gold Star ticket, and sat in the front row on some very comfortable and supportive bean bags. Although we took a picnic and wine, you can order food and drink on this ticket prior to the film starting by waving your menu above your head. Check the weather as you may need to wrap up warm... Entertaining overseas visitors, we thought this would be something different. I booked the bean bags, and they were great - really comfortable, surprising everyone!! We bought food at the Queen Vic Market in the afternoon, and wine at Young & Jackson's prior to the gates opening. Lots of people and a few with their pets. It was great, though Melbourne's... More

Some quick tips to make sure your time at Moonlight Cinema is as good as ours was. 1. Book in advance! 2. Pack your own food - the only negative to the cinema is food options are limited and expensive! 3. Bring plenty of cushions and blankets to cuddle up. 4. Arrive early to grab a good spot. Follow the... More

We did not book online as weren't sure if we were going. Arrived ~7pm and the line up was LONG (8.30pm advertised start time) - Advise if you haven't booked tickets - get one of you to stay in the long line and the other to go down the path to the office box -right near the gate entrance and... This activity is a fun way to experience Melbourne by night. We made a slight error in deciding to walk from Lygon Street to the Moonlight Cinema. We did it but it was quite a hike. The bonus of the walk was that we meandered through the Botanic Gardens which were beautiful. Due to being visitors and not having our... More
