This Corvette has been restored entirely by volunteers, donations and the small $6 adults and $3 kids entry fee. Not great if you are disabled as you have to climb the ladders between the levels. Set up as a museum with some sound effects and voice overs, there might also be an enthusiastic volunteer to show you around and also... More

We visited Williamstown (ferry ride from Southgate) with our young son over the school holidays. Just prior to returning, we visited HMAS Castlemaine for a tour and walk through. The guides are knowledgeable, friendly and very informative, and we thoroughly enjoyed learning about this important history. Be ready to climb some internal ladders to see the upper deck and living... More

HMAS Castlemaine is a hidden treasure waiting to be explored. Docked in the central harbour of Williamstown beside the main park (which has a great market on Sundays) and a stones throw from the multitude of restaurants, cafés and shops of main street Williamstown. A ridiculously cheap $6 for adults is tremendous value for what you get to see and... More

One of the better flooding War History Museums HMAS Castlemaine used during the Second World War in the pacific fighting off the Japanese. Just amazing to walk around and take it this ship as it was back in war years. Well done to the Williamstown community that made this flooding museum possible.

Very cheap and well worth a visit, you can have the run of most areas or take advantage of one of the well informed volunteers. Need care when going down ladders so maybe not for small children.

Whilst staying a few nights in Williamson we strolled on to the pier and decided to have a look at the Castlemaine Mine Sweeper. We were highly delighted when a guide came and joined us and took us on the grand tour. His explanation was superb. He highlighted all the salient points and guided us all the way. His knowledge... HMAS Castlemaine was built in Williamstown Victoria. Castlemaine is now retired and moored in Williamstown and gives a first hand view of the function of a mine sweeper, how the crew and officers lived and worked. The volunteers make this exhibition come to life with their knowledge and experience. We had the opportunity to visit the engine room and listen... More

The HMAS Castlemaine is a corvette, one of the smallest ocean-going warships afloat. The ship was built during World War II at the Williamstown Naval Dockyard, near where it is noew berthed. Aficionados of naval history will love this ship. You can go aboard.
