I took the "Express to Penguin Parade" and the Great Ocean Road full day tour! Gray Line Tours are definitely tops with wifi onboard as well as the tour operators being very professional (Ian and Paul) VERY informative, friendly, entertaining and outgoing. The Penguin Parade is a must. It's a very easy late afternoon tour, but dress warm as the... More

Booked with Melbourne's best day tours but when we checked in were directed to the gray line coach and wasn't disappointed. Coach was really comfortable with free wifi and the driver pointed out lots of interesting things on our way. Enjoyed the stop at the farm to see some sheep sheering and got up really close to some koalas in... More

We (my mum and I with a 2 year old) took the day trip to Great Ocean Road, booked through the visitor centre in Melbourne. The day is long but pick up/drop off from the hotel is very convenient. Our guide was Richard and he was wonderful - knowledgeable, enthusiastic (it was a tough bus-load!) and had great local tips.... More

Penguins are not reliable and each night varies, we had a medium night but, thanks to James our guide, we saw more by following his expert advice as to where to view. it is a shame, but essential, that photos are not allowed but maybe we rely too much on photos. We were lucky to catch some Koalas who weren't... More

Hi there Simon C. Thank you for your review. We will pass your compliments onto James. It sounds like you made the most of your time at the Penguin Parade in light of the disappointing news that you couldn't photograph them. Yes, you are correct, the numbers of penguins vary night to night, and month to month, depending on how... More

I'm just on the trip at the moment and I'm a bit disappointed. Came on the trip to view and photograph penguins in the wild. After paying $160 we were told on the start of the afternoon we would not be able to use cameras, videos or any other devices to photograph the parade. I fully understand the decision by... More

Hello Philip H Yes I am afraid for the safety of the little penguins, you are not permitted to photograph them. I hope in the end, you found the tour to be enjoyable and you found the photographs of the penguins available for purchase in the Penguin Parade gift shop. Kind regards Kelly More

We did the Penguins and the City Tour. The first part of the tour was the City Highlights tour and it was great- specifically the Botanic Gardens and Veterans Memorial. Make sure you visit on a Monday or Wednesday because Queen Victoria Markets was kind of lame and the Memorial and Botanic Gardens were awesome. There is an express to... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
