Really enjoyed this walking tour. Chris definitely brought us to streets/lanes we would not have found on our own. His love of this city, knowledge of it''s history and great sense of humor made for a very pleasant day. Thank you Chris!

The trip takes you through the central Melbourne district and gives you a wonderful perspective of the history of the city. It takes you to little streets where you would not go on your own until you get to know about them. It also takes you to some very impressive and historic buildings which are real works of art. Had the walking tour with Dave. He did the tour well and all in all I really liked both him and the wonderful other people that was on the tour! Such a good crowd really! Nice with the coffee break as well so we in the group get to talk together! Could have been a bit longer tho. Got to... More

Highly recommend the tour and a must when you first arrive in Melbourne as you will get an understanding of the past & present. I am a local and our interstate visitor was going, thought I would tag along not realising that it would be so enjoyable. Excellent value for money.

Purchased as a present for family holidaying in Melbourne as well as some locals. Learnt a lot of interesting facts about the city and saw some hidden gems. Was a fantastic day. It would have been nice to possibly see a bit of Little Bourke Street or QV Market. But can understand that time is limited.

What an amazing tour to get to know Melbourne. Worth every penny. Chris was an amazing guide so knowledgeable and friendly. The mix of history and local knowledge and the incredible buildings, arcades and lanes make for a fantastic tour.

We had a fun time on our recent Melbourne by Foot Beer Lovers Guide walking tour. Our guide Jordan was friendly and informative and we had fun mixing with the other people on the tour. I'm not a beer drinker but there were cider and wine options and the tour finished with a meal. This is a fun way to... More

We loved our walk with Chris around some of Melbourne's well know and lesser know features. The range of stories relating to our history, cultural changes (e.g. the introduction of coffee houses during the temperance era), architecture (old and new), laneways, artwork, Melbourne’s nightlife (including uncovering some of our hidden bars and restaurants), made this a really interesting walk. I'd... More

This provided a good introduction to the area, which was useful given that this was our first visit to the city. The guide has his script which is interesting and occasionally funny. He is less good when asked questions that deviate from his routine. All in all, a good experience.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
