We could spend hours here

Beautiful building, rich in history. It just makes you want to learn. Fantastic exhibits and well maintained. Great way to spend an hour or more.

I was really blown away by the level of services, accessibility, and events offered by the library. It is DEFINITELY a must see! Get inside and tour the small gallery, but certainly make your way into the main reading room for some of their rotating exhibitions and breathtaking views from the top of the room. There is also a lovely... More

Dropped in here on a whim. The radio exhibition was great for people over 30, not so interesting for the under 20s. The dome, and it's little nooks and crannies with Ned Kelly history and the old photos of Victoria, kept the teens amused for a good hour. Good place to spend an hour or so indoors.

It has internet, great permanent and temporary exhibitions and amazing halls. Worth a visit and very handy on the wintery or wet days.

Apart frmt he obvious - books, there is gallery space in this library too which is very well laid out and very interesting. Apart from that it is just a marvellous building.

I had seen photos online, but in person the central reading room was even more awe-inspiring. I spent several hours wandering around taking it all in, and could easily have spent even more time there.

Worth a pop in! The outside is very nice but the inside is very beautiful. There is lots of history and it is the meeting point of the free walking tour were you can learn more about it! There is normally an event going on inside such as and art exhibition and there is lots going on around it. Nice... More

The State library is worth a visit. The lovely reading room is inspiring. The collection of Ned Kelly artifacts with his history is informative.

I've been to many exhibitions at the State Library they constantly have contemporary shows. It has amazing architecture and is worth seeing just the library. One of my favourite shows was a history of the most influential books throughout history. Including the bible, the Communist Manifesto and the Dada Manifesto. It also had some increadible medicine books and botanical books.... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
