I went here expecting a quick look round and out again, but became absorbed in exhibitions, one on the 4th level on the evolution and significance of books over the centuries and one on the 5th floor on the development of the state of Victoria...More

This library is amazing - from the beautiful domed ceiling down to the fact it's still a fully functional library. Well worth a visit, just for the architecture and historical exhibitions that are running on the upper levels.

We didn’t go here to read, just we’re wandering and wanted to have a look. It’s huge! Free to get in and if you go upstairs, it’s cool to look down and people watch (oops sounds creepy) and there’s historical facts to read as well!...More

What a fantastic library. One of the reading rooms has old fashioned desks and green shaded lamps - a must see. It all houses an exhibition on Ned Kelly and prides itself on having his original suit of armour

Great architecture, quiet spaces, fantastic art & my highlight is Ned Kelly’s armour along with the Jerilderie letter. Well worth visiting as part of a visit in Melbourne’s CBD.... even just as a place to rest & read for a little while.

Get a preview of this building by doing the I am Free tour. Go back and spend time gazing at the architecture, reading a book and walking the upper floors exploring Melbourne's history and learning about the infamous Ned Kelly.

Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways
tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary
feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the
city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques,
throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You
never quite know what you’ll find around the next
corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and
even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air
