It is indeed a great place to visit, or to read or to relax a bit. At first, you see people playing chess in front of the building, or students relaxing on the grass. It is very nice. Then it is the big building with...More

I'm not sure what the facilities are like but it's an amazing building. You can just go in and have a look.

You have so much here that is free. It is not just students doing homework assignments or research or family history researchers who come here. There is some great art on the walls, interesting architecture, a place for young children, good toilets, access to cafes,...More

Forget what you know about libraries being stuffy, the State Library is a bit of a revelation. The history display of Melbourne is fascinating, and the artefacts on display are a lot different to those on show elsewhere. Ned Kelly's armour is particularly interesting.

Took a wander through this beautiful old building and was pleasantly surprised. Sure, it's a library, but the various reading rooms are grandiose, old worldly meets modern technolog would best describe it.. Well worth a visit, which by the way is free of charge.

This much used building is so impressive, yet other than the users of the library, it seems so relatively unknown to most Melbourne folk and it is not featured in many tourist listings. Yet it is vast, beautifully restored, with one of the largest domes...More

Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways
tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary
feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the
city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques,
throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You
never quite know what you’ll find around the next
corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and
even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air
