Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

- Farah P43 contributionsNothing impressiveI understand the graffiti art changes here regularly and at the time of our visit there really was nothing worth walking there for. The graffiti was very, how do I say this, normal and not quite worth looking at . I thought the ones at Fitroy was nicer.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 October 2023
- smiler1956Birmingham, United Kingdom602 contributionsStreet artVisited with my wife as part of a walking tour of the side streets of Melbourne. This forms part of the street art horseshoe and depicts street art at the rear of buildings. Some amazing paintings, but spoilt in part by the unnecessary tags, which is clear vandalism.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 March 2024
- Aditya MKathmandu, Nepal136 contributionsQuick walk around the Hosier LaneThis is basically a narrow street with graffiti on both sides of the street. Some of the graffiti’s were really impressive while few of them looked like scribbles. Also there are a lot of homeless people who are either drunk or high on something in the street so it’s best to be a bit careful with your belongings. This is just a precaution although nothing bad happened. There is a Culture Kings store in the lane and you can see somebody Dj ing live if you’re lucky.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 June 2024
- CarloHelmondHelmond, The Netherlands725 contributionsDisappointedWe heard about Hosier lane and had seen some street art earlier in our trip, so we were looking forward to Hosier lane. It was disappointing. not many surviving art works. One newly painted one for the 2024 Olympics, but the rest was not worth the time. Just took a couple of minutes to walk trough the laneVisited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 August 2024

Hosier Lane is the best site in Melboune for urban art. It's always changing, so you see something new every time you go. The art ranges from the sublime to the ridiculous. Hosier Lane is very easy to find, just go along Flinders St towards Spring St on the left hand side and you can't miss it; there's usually a crowd.

Melbourne is famous - among other things - for its street art, which is tolerated and sometimes encouraged in many parts of the city. The hightest concentration of graffiti can be found in Hosier Lane and the adjacent Rutledge Lane. Narrow pedestrian alleys between Flinders Street and Flinders Lane, just north of Federation Square.
The quality of the urban art here varies a lot and unfortunately some of the best graffiti have been vandalized by non-artistic sprayers. The place is popular with tourists, but in the morning hours, when I went there, just a few people were around. I encountered an organized group with a local guide giving explanations. Coffee can be had in a takeaway and also the well known Tapas Bar 'MoVida' is in Hosier Lane..

Melbourne’s street art scene is amazing & rivals that of other big scenes, more well known for their street art elsewhere in the world (such as Berlin etc)... we were lucky enough to see a street artist in action when we wandered down the road having a nosy.
Well worth having a look whilst in the city

This is a unique boutique restaurant specialising in authentic australian bush flavours, fused in modern contemporary cuisine. Is is a foodies delight. I was privilage to sample many dishes, all of which were Moorish.
This restaurant is a training facility for extremely excitingly talented up and coming First Nations Chefs and Baristas.
Treat yourself (and someone special)!!

A very interesting street full of beautiful artwork/graffiti. Some artists were working when we visited. The lower wall areas changes frequently but the artwork that is higher up on the walls is there considerably longer and seems to generally be more appealing.

Hosier Lane is one of Melbourne's most popular attractions. It's spray painted art; and it's ever changing, there's always something new. Hosier Lane is easy to find, it runs off Flineers street, not far from Flinders St Station, as you walk towards Spring St.

Hosier Lane's strong point is that it is always changing. It's a form of contemporary street art, whether you like it or not depends on your tastes; it doesn't appeal to everyone. Hosier Lane is not as grotty as some street art venues, and it's a step up from random grafitti that is often splattered everywhere. One point in Hosier Lane's favour is that it's only a few hundred meters from Flinders St Station

Hosier Lane is one of Melbourne's famous Street Art streets. It is a short street but it is full of some of the most interesting as well as not so great "street art". Much of it is plain graffiti and not all of it of merit. Still, it is worth visiting.

DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME!!!
Perhaps in earlier times this was a great example of street art, but a recent walk up Hosier lane confirmed that it’s notoriety has meant that every knucklehead under the sun with a can of spray paint has left their uninspiring mark with no respect to the original art that they’ve covered over. It’s a mess of less-than-artistic tags, nothing more.
Do yourself a favour, get outta town, and make your way down the laneways of nearby Fitzroy where you’ll find some of the best street art in unexpected places that you’re ever likely to see.

This outdoor art show is constantly changing. Some of the wall paintings are truly inspired, while others could be described as daubings. The graffiti is always changing, there is a lot of competition between the spray paint artists, the topics are intriguing. By the way, Hosier Lane is easy to find, it's several hundred metres (yards) from Flinders St Station, on the left-hand

What time does hosier lane close
Written 30 January 2017
It's just an open street so no closing time. I wouldn't recommend going after dark -- you won't be able to see all the art and it does have a few lurkers.
