Bad weather

We were disappointed because of the weather but what we could see was absolutely beautiful. Hobart is a town to visit and enjoy

This is a favourite look out or snogging spot for the locals. Tour buses do get up there too. There is small carpark at the top for a handful of cars. In recent years the trees have grown up so much the much of the view toward the city is obstructed. The view east over Lauderdale and South Arm is... More

An alternative choice to Mount Wellington Mount Nelson Lookout also has a cafe, originally used as a semiphore station it has great views over Hobart and surrounds.

This used to have spectacular views of Hobart city but the trees have grown and its impossible to see now. Trees need to be lopped at top (not cut down). Would improve the views for visitors. A little warning about the cafe up there - owner very rude to some of the cruise ship passengers who had arrived in a... More

Mt Nelson provides an easier access to a panoramic view of Hobart than Mt Wellington. As well as the views-and they are spectacular- there is also fascinating history on show. Mt Nelson was a Signal Station and you can see why. There's also a cafe on site. Parking is easy which makes access all the easier for older visitors.

The lookout from Mount Nelson is only second to the view at Mt Wellington, but you don't have to travel as far and there is a coffee shop and restaurant on site. When snow blocks the road to Mt Wellington, Mt Nelson is a good alternative.

It's a short nice drive from Sandy Bay. The old signal system is interesting and well kept. Electric grills in the park behind the lookout. Pay your respect to Truganini at the rock behind the park. There is also a short walk named after her.

There is a small coffee shop you can warm up. It was a bit tricky to find as our navigator led us somewhere else, but we just asked the locals.

This lookout is really nice with a fantastic view. Only minus are the tall trees in the Hobart direction spoiling that look, but the rest is fantastic! There is lots of benches and BBQs for a fun outing.
